I have read several posts regarding Americans recieving Russian visas in consulates/embassies, such as Kiev, Tallinn, and even in Italy (in spite of the new law requiring visa applications only in one's home country). I am living with my family in the Altaisky Krai, and our visas are up at the end of May. We all have visas for Kazakhstan and planned on running to Astana for new Russian visas - and then I read the "Russian visas issued only in your home country" law. It appears that in spite of this law, Russian consulates are issuing visas to Americans. I am now weighing the risk of taking the family to Kazakhstan for new visas, and leaving our stuff in the house in Russia we are renting. Does anyone have suggestions or advice?
