McDonald's restaurants will continue to operate in Russia under a new brand
According to RBC's source, restaurants may open in June, employees' jobs will remain. The company made the decision to permanently withdraw from the Russian market due to the situation around Ukraine and the uncertainty in the business environment.

The McDonald's fast food restaurant chain is selling assets in Russia, but will continue to operate in the country under a new brand. This was reported to RBC by a source in the company.

“All McDonald's assets are being sold, all jobs are being saved, there will be a new brand, a new chain of fast food outlets that will open in the places where McDonald's used to work. We hope that the first opening will be in June, ”said the interlocutor of RBC.

A TASS source in the company also said that the network will restart under a new brand, retaining the staff and menu. “The chain of restaurants and the menu will be preserved <...>. More than 90% of suppliers are Russian, cooperation with them will continue. In fact, only the name will go away, ”the source said.

On May 16, McDonald's announced its final withdrawal from the Russian market and the beginning of the sale of its business in Russia. The company cited "the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine" and the acceleration of uncertainty in the business environment as the reasons for this decision. McDonald's considered further business ownership in Russia to be inappropriate and inconsistent with the company's values. McDonald's intends to sell its restaurants to a "local customer" which would entail "withdrawal of the McDonald's name, logo, brands and menu," the company said.

The fact that McDonald's will suspend the work of all 850 restaurants in Russia, the head of the company, Chris Kempchinski , announced on March 8. Since March 14, services in most of them have been completed due to problems with "the uninterrupted operation of the main directions, maintaining the key assortment in the network's enterprises and high quality standards," the press service said. Some restaurants continued to work due to the completion of production processes.

The company also continued to pay salaries to employees - there are about 62,000 of them in Russia

I understand the ones working under franchise so far will be McDonalds outlets. The others will be refitted without McDonald's branding. But we will soon find out!

only things that are or can be or might be associated with McD will be changed. all packaging items, the menus, the uniforms ( they are selling them, employees that is, on ebay, for prices i can buy me 5 caps or 3 Jackets). because they all know when McD will be back they will get new Uniforms.
Interesting though, still no news on the new name of the shops..

I read that Russia and Ukraine accounted for 9% of McDonalds total sales in 2021 but UA and Russia brought in $330 million in profits per year, about 3% of their global net profits (EBIT) of 10.3 billion. Not a very high profit contribution for these two markets compared to other units in McDonalds.

Without RU and UA, McDonald's overall return on sales (profits/EBIT as a percentage of total sales) goes up by 3% in 2023, after the UA/RU write-off in 2022. The write-off gives McDonalds a tax reduction. There will also be an overall profit jump from 2022 to 2023. Plus UA and RU have high operating costs, taking these out increases margins. All this will be good news for share holders in 2023.

It looks to me like McDonalds is getting rid of a low profit part of its business and reaping the benefits of all the free press they are getting in RU. The discussion in Russia of a fast food joint selling greasy food is endless.

And we still don't know what the Russian buyer is paying for McDonalds. It might be built into a licensing fee arrangement, McDonalds' usual strategy. Their partner is a McDonalds licensee who knows the rules of the game. His stores in Siberia will stay open, keeping McD's food in the door.

not only in Siberia. about 100 franchise owners apparently will carry on under the McD yellow arches. Only thing, the factory in Solntsevo -McFabrika- will not be able to dictate the price anymore.because burger patties Miratorg can deliver, they have their slaughterhouses and factories all over the places. and the meat on top of it. the mushy soft rolls? any bakery can do them. and the big hothouse and vegetable multies, Belaya Dacha, MosAgroProm, or a few others, can deliver salad, cucumbers and tomatoes. they also have the capacity and delivery networks.
McD must not think without them the world will end.
Who has been to MAGBURGER, i see it always o nthe way to the Dacha,Same set up as others, though the quality is MUCH better. AND if one is prepared to wait a little bit, you get even a fresh -grilled -burger. And not the dry, well done -murdered -beef patties. Walking out of a MAGBURGER one is really full and sated. from ONE of their orders...

So many places are better than McDonalds.

Growing up, in our family we never ate at McDonalds as a matter of principle. And I mean never. Even in high school I avoided it like the plague.

And look at their profit margins. Profits (EBIT) of 10 billion out of sales of 23 billion USD. That is highway robbery.

Per sales agreement the new owner will have to stay with all suppliers for two years.
