Ben, you fall on one side of this great divide, which makes you partisan. Most partisans are unfair to the other side, the one they disagree with.
If we conditionally name these sides "believers" (in the government narratives and claims) and "non-believers". People whose livelihoods have not been affected by lockdowns more easily become the former.; the lockdowns don't hurt them, and they can't imagine themselves in the position of those whose jobs or businesses have been damaged or destroyed. There is a virus. It does debilitate and kill. The question is, is it worth destroying small businesses and life independent of big government or big business to try to evade it? I don't think so. It is not worth sacrificing the civil liberties of Western civilization so that 0.1% of the population might temporarily avoid death for a few years. I say this having buried my father-in-law and the mother of close friends, the latter definitely from COVID.

What point do masks have if they increase the rate of other long-term diseases from continually breathing back in what your body is trying to expel? The mandated methods of control have been leading inexorably to enforced socialism and the death of the free citizen who can thumb his nose at and criticize his own government. When people would rather die than go on indefinitely isolating and living in an antisocial manner, you have a bigger problem than a virus.

the new strains per se are not more deadly or dangerous as the existing ones. meaning, not more people are dying or need hospitalisation. But what those new variations do, the spread out and infect faster then the -old - variations. and also -push out - those old variations. so there are fewer people dying form the -old - virus, because there are fewer infections. but more from the new variants because more people get infected and faster. so, therefore the - mutations - must be more deadly? not true..

how long SHOULD one wear those masks? not more than 1.5 hours. then got out or o na palce where one is -alone - and get some fresh air. wherefrom do you get those masks? 100 rubles for a 10 pack? from some discounter? where do you store or keep those masks when you're not using them? in the dirty pants pocket? on the cars rear view mirror?
what amazes me, painters, bricklayers or demolition people who work with those masks for hours never said anything. have you read that in the news?

what i thought do agree that even more sop in the EU and the USA that whole thing was and still is a big PR disaster. So many different experts say so many different things. and change their mind every other day. and what the polititians do not f...ck up, the yellow press and social media do the rest.
what surprises me though, where are the hallelujah shouters and toe kissers? they are all quiet. not a word form them. though no help either...
i think the main reason why so many places do their -own thing-, the public just had enough. if THEIR attitude is, well if we get it and die, so be it. what is any government to do about it? if they dont have the people behind them, they can - do a Chernomyrdin - and hope for the best... And in the meantime try to vaccinate as many people as there are willing to do it. and hope that from the ones that get infected the majority will be mild cases. and as few people as possible will die..

That's right and the Governor of Florida didn't allow people with Covid into nursing homes so while Florida has a larger population than NY it had much less deaths. NY had the highest death rate of any state.

because they had hard and strict controls right from the beginning. and people helped and stuck with the orders. payed off in the long run. while others went partying and had wild - walk arounds- and what not, they are paying the price now.

Unless you mean "strict controls on admission to nursing homes", this doesn't make any sense. On the whole, it is NY that has long implemented the hard and strict controls.

Like I said, you are a believer (in government, the officially approved scientists, etc), and your posts reflect this.

No, Florida never had hard controls and mostly protected the old people like not letting Covid get into nursing homes. It's the places where they had strict controls that did a lot worse like New York and California. None of these rules made much sense. Locking people up in their homes so they don't get fresh air and sunshine, then let one person go out to a big chain store like Walmart, where thousands of people go is not logical. That one person can bring back the virus to family living in the worst possible condition to get the virus. Now if they closed the big stores and opened many small local stores and had less people going to smaller shops it would be less likely that the virus spread. The virus can live on surfaces and to have thousands of people touching them is dumb. So if you go to a shop that has had maybe 75 to 100 people pass through your chances of getting sick is better than going to a store that has had thousands passing through. But this isn't about protecting people as much as it is controlling them and destroying small businesses to help the bigger businesses.
