Me too. I love old books. I have US civil war, Spanish-American war, etc. I got some old German maps from WW1 and a pile of Russian books going back to the 1880's for $1 each. Nobody here speaks German or Russian, so they don't bid.
But one time they bid a Russian clock up to $400, it was from the submarine "Red October" which of course is a fictional boat...
I'm not malicious, I read the Russian on it for the auctioneer and they announced it was from the submarine "Red October" but Americans don't seem to be able to discern a movie about a Russian submarine from a real Russian submarine.
My daddy gave me a copy of the Richard Halliburton travel book when I was like 8 or so, and it was endlessly fascinating. I collect them now. Also the "Lands and Peoples" series, I have 3 sets of these, but they don't fetch much on Ebay, there are too many people cleaning out their attics and basements and selling online. But it's a good hobby, you are collecting value, as printing goes to ebooks, old books will become more valuable.
