weird indeed. the EU does not recognise the election results, but Merkel calls Lukashenko still President. ( from www.Bild.de). Noon edition, by now headers might have changed... they do it every hour or so. as it is interesting for them.

WHAT is all the same everywhere? You sound like a racist.

And you said you went to Crimea "several times". This is where you saw all these "black Ukrainians"

Yes, all the Republicans I know have subscriptions to CNN, Politico, Media Matters, and other Left-wing orgs, from whose postings you cut-n-paste here.

I think, the Gauleiter of occupied territory of former Germany shoud call Tikhanovskaya... and discuss 3K concept.

Try doing it this way. Zoom in on one corner and count individuals, to 10, or 20. Put a square around it. Then go to the next "block" - another 10 or 20. Count blocks until you get to 100 people, and size that. The get similar size blocks of 100's until you get to a thousand. Then count blocks of 1000's...

You have another method? I used this raw method, estimating crowd size at our local baseball stadium. But I remember Khrushchev said that Russia invented baseball

Where did all the large red-white striped flags suddenly come from? They haven't used this flag for three decades.

Notice in the pic the white-red-white flags are regularly spaced. One every 40 meters or so.

Very organized, this so far peaceful mob.

The white-red-white flag that is being displayed in the streets of Belarus by an “opposition movement”, fueled from abroad these days and decorating the front pages of the Western NATO press, has nothing to do with the Belarus of today. It goes back to the Biełaruskaja Narodnaja Respublika – BNR – “People’s Republic of Belarus”, founded by the German Emperor Wilhelm II, on the territory of old Lithuania and Ruthenia, after German troops occupied the country in March 1918 and the young Soviet Russia signed the Brest-Litovsk Agreement.

The BNR Council then sent a telegram to the German Kaiser Wilhelm II in which it thanked him for the “liberation of Belarus” and asked for further help in establishing “alliance with the German Reich”. This “opposition movement” of today, celebrated by the western NATO countries, relies on such false patriots, who betray and sell their country to the worst enemies.

In 1919 the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic BSSR was founded, which in 1922 joined the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics of the UdSSR. Their national flag was initially red with a hammer and sickle.

When the German Wehrmacht invaded this country again in 1941 to exterminate a third of the population, the collaborators promptly raised the white and red flag again, this time adorned with a Nazi swastika. From 1943-1945, the Nazi flag was the symbol of the Beloruthenian Central Council. The Beloruthenian Central Council (BZR) was founded on December 21, 1943 in Minsk by the Nazi Schutzstaffel (SS). It served as a mouthpiece for Nazi propaganda and facilitated the mobilization of Belarusian war volunteers on the side of the German fascists.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, in the triumphant frenzy of western-style imperialism, the white-red-white flag once again became the official state flag of Belarus for a short time. After a referendum in 1995, the new flag with its green and red ribbons, reminiscent of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic BSSR, was introduced. This is the national Belarusian flag of today. May it fly proudly on the Government buildings of Minsk forever.

Man, I do spend an incredible amount of time reading news. So guilty.

I do follow some stories more than others, but actually, it's not that hard to follow stories once you know them, because they progress slowly. So guilty.

I do read stories from many news sources, both American and foreign. I'm not really concerned with source bias, as I know the core basis of the stories fairly well, and each source simple paints the story in slightly different colors. many times, there is a nugget of truth in each story. So guilty.

I firmly believe that one should listen to all sides and use the best judgement to determine if there is actual merit to the agrieved or it's just blah blah blah. So guilty.

I also firmly believe that once people start shouting la la la with their fingers in their ears and ignoring those around them that further problems will emerge. We are all people and are the exact same on many levels, we need food, shelter, we need to be validated as a person, we need to feel our opinion has worth. As a long term expat, I have met many people I don't agree with, but I listen to them and their stories.any times I learn something new. Other times, my own self bias is confirmed. But I listen to people and try to live in their shoes for that brief moment we share together. So guilty.

But what am I guilty of?

Having an open mind? Being ready to have an honest conversation? Not judging people for the choices in their lives? Being ready to listen?

Whenever dictators finally leave (i.e., while still being ambulatory), they always need another country that is at least semi-friendly to him as an exit strategy. I had always thought that Russia was the exit strategy for Lukaschenko, but obviously, that is no longer the case. I figure he'd have to go to some friendly Union Republic with its own strongman, such as exists in the Central Asian republics.

Many of the former Ukrainian regimes leadership has seemingly quietly disappeared in Russia without a peep. Lukashenko might be able to do the same....

one thing though impresses me most by all these protests in Belarus. No looting shops, no burning cars, no stones ripped out from pavements.no overturned trash cans. even o nthe big pic, and the white red white flags, traffic is not being hindered to flow. should make one think about, shouldn't it? Merkel Still calls Lukashenko President, by the way...

It is another so called Velvet revolution, but the question is will Lukashenko be able to tough it out............. does he think the protesters will tire and go back to their normal daily lives?

He has toughed it out before, but may be this time he will not be able to, especially as many of the state factories and mines etc are supporting the protest movement....
