is SHOIGU the next Russian leader?

    https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/...-leader-a67599

and why not? he is an respected general in the army. is respected by the emergency services. and with the families togehter, should bring in a big part of the votes needed. since Russia is not ready for a female president, and will not be for many a year, Shoigu is a a good solution. the only thing people might hold against him that he is not - Russian-.

What do you think “be ready for a female President” means? How is it something any nation can be “ready” for? Either it makes no difference what the sex of the leader is, or it does. Personally, I think it does. Readiness has nothing to do with that question.

Now as a fan of he book and the TV miniseries, I’m waiting for the Shoigun jokes to begin...

Russia is still a - patriarchal society- . And that will not end soon. only THEN can one talk about ANY female President. Ask some of the males around you. would the vote a woman into the Kremlin? and if no, why not.

Ben, you can’t possibly have been using language like that for more than a decade or two. Three decades ago, nobody talked about “patriarchal society” except for a few radical and frustrated professors who had no business professing. How did you talk when you were younger? Can you remember?
“Patriarchal society”. All that means is “normal society in human history”, where women dominated in the home sphere and social life, and men dominated in the public sphere of politics, which women had the sense to understand were not all that important.
The alternative to the normal society of human history is abnormal society, one in which the home sphere, the ochag, disappears, as the ochag is to be tended by nobody. Without that, all of the other professions are meaningless - their only raison d’etre is to support home life. If they don’t do that, you might as well be making paper airplanes.

Women have occupied few positions of influence in the executive branch of Russia's national government. One post in the Government (cabinet), that of minister of social protection, has become a "traditional" women's position; in 1994 Ella Pamfilova was followed in that position by Lyudmila Bezlepkina, who headed the ministry until the end of President Boris Yeltsin's first term in mid-1996. Tat'yana Paramanova was acting chairman of the Russian Central Bank for one year before Yeltsin replaced her in November 1995, and Tat'yana Regent has been head of the Federal Migration Service since its inception in 1992. Prior to the 1995 elections, women held about 10 percent of the seats in parliament: fifty-seven of 450 seats in the State Duma and nine of 178 seats in the upper house of parliament, the Federation Council. The Soviet system of mandating legislative seats generally allocated about one-third of the seats in republic-level legislatures and one-half of the seats in local soviets to women, but those proportions shrank drastically with the first multiparty elections of 1990.

    Anybody heard of Yekaterina Alekseyevna?

Perhaps better known to foreigners as Catherine the Great, or Catherine II?
