Moving house / importation of furniture

I plan to drive a van load of furniture to St. Petersburg (some of which is 'nearly new'). I have permanent residency (less than 12 months) I understand that I can move my personal property without paying VAT 20%. Just wondering if anyone has any experience. Is there anything to do other than fill out a customs declaration form at the border?

Ask one of the transport companies that specialize in bringing personal belongings into Russia.
