25th Anniversary of the Anglican Church in St Petersburg - 4th November 2018

On Sunday 4th November, Rev Malcolm Rogers, Chaplain of St. Andrew's Anglican Church Moscow, will lead a service commemorating the 25th anniversary of the modern era Anglican Church in St Petersburg (*). The Eucharist service will be at 16:00 in the Petrikirche.

Twenty-five years ago, on 7th November 1993, Rev Rogers, who was based at the time at the SPb Theological Academy, assisted at the first post-Soviet Anglican Eucharist service in St Petersburg, marking the start of renewed Anglican worship in the city. Rev Stuart Robertson presided and the service was also attended by members of the Helsinki Chaplaincy.

There will be refreshments after the service - please do also bring some food to share.

(*) The Anglican Church in St Petersburg has a much longer history, of course, having been established in 1723 by a decree of Peter the Great. The church was closed in 1919 but from 1972 until the 1980s the Helsinki chaplain visited Leningrad (& Moscow) on an almost monthly basis and held Anglican worship in the residence of the American Consul.
