    - dognapping- scumbags found a new way to make money

do you have a -thoroughbred- dog? ( or just an ordinary - mutt-)
do you let him run free and out of sight, when taking him for a walk?
do you have a phone number or more information on the dog collar?

you could be the next victim.

this is from the news on Moscow 24 in the morning...

dognappers catch a dog that they see running around free, maybe far away from the owner, who might stand around with others, having a smoke, a talk, and not always looking where their dogs are romping around. if there is no information on the collar, they let the dog free. nothing much to identify it or find the owner. if there is a phone number, they call the owners and tell them for a small sum, between 5 000 and 15 000 rubles they can have their dog back. of course they do not tell how the got the dog. they just -found- it. or it came running to them. or because THEY have a female, the male just came sniffing over..... of course one will pay. and they make money...
do dog trackers work? there are gadgets around that will tell you on your iphone where Fido or rex is running around. either every minute, 5 minutes or only when you activate the gadget to check. do they work? well, one thing is for sure, do not economic on price. the cheaper the gadget, the more inaccurate thy work. and, out in the -Tundra- one company might have good connections, another one not... But most of all, what does it all help when the battery or accumulator at the dog collar is depleted. and even the better one, if they have to send out a signal every minute, will work for about 5 hours only.

i listened into the news only half way though. if anyone ahs more information, please add it on here.

You have to have a smart phone and internet connection for those to work. Simply don't let your dog off the leash.

Wally hard to tell that to people when walking their dog in a 2000 ha big park. - My -dog is a good dog, is than the answer one gets. i gave up long ago already. but i know from our vet, last year when we had this dog poison story around here, only domestic dogs that were running - free - were poisoned. when your dog is on a leash, you can see what's going on. but some people think they are more clever, well so be it.
the - homeless- dogs that are around here are still the same. they seem to have developed a - nose- for what they can eat or not. and they just will not go near a - strange - person.
