Under Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998 'Right of Subject Access' an individual is entitled to make a Subject Access request to an organisation for information which may be held about them.

If you wish to obtain up-to-date details of any criminal records in the UK, you will need to make a subject access request directly to the police force in the area where you currently or last resided in the UK.

Criminal Records Bureau - Subject Access
document gives the contact details of each constabulary.
Please note, a subject access from the police can also be used for visa purposes.
A Subject Access request to the CRB will cost in the region of £10 and can take up to 40 working days to be processed.

If you wish to apply for subject access, please contact the address below.

In the USA, it is much easier to background search criminal records because they are considered public information. Most States and city websites publish criminal record information which can be viewed on-line.

I don't like the look of this site, you need to contact the metropiton police for this subect access, and they will provide you with the addresses of your local police dept. You will get the form on this site also.

Is nobody looking up my directory

When you receive this police check, you will then have to send it back again to be legalised or apostilled by another dept, Ministry of Foreign affairs I think.

I'll be back, let me check my directory.

After you get your police check, you then have to send it back again to be legalised. There are many agencies who will do this for you, for a few hundred quid No! No! No! get it direct from the government.

I think you should give a step by step advice to Americans, if you think it's so much easier for them. Because reading the previous American it looks much more complicated than the British system. The fingerprints, although necessary for Russia, and the ability to their police checks legalised appears to be another big problem.

To the Brits, forget any mention of CRB checks, it's not for immigration, it's for strict security purposes. All teachers in UK , including TEFL who teach children, must have one. Avoid this one as it's not necessary. And it's much more complicated and searching.

Very good, are you sending it from Russia? Easy if you are sending it from Britain and you have British or international cheque book. If in britain no problem sending it by normal post with acheque or postal order.

From Russia, will you send it by DHL, with a courier.and then have your Mum for example in the UK to send a cheque for £8 and £10 on your behalf ? That's what I did.
