    :: Expat.ru MOTORCYCLE THREAD ::

Can we have a thread for all things bike-related?

There are a few bikers on here, and it would be nice to share each-others experiences on riding in Russia.

I started riding last summer with the safety course..

In April, I bought my first motorcycle for $3000. It is a 1995 Honda CB400 Super Four.

    Mods:
    Armored brake lines
    Aftermarket “streefighter” headlight
    HID kit
    Exhaust muffler from some Yamaha
    One-way alarm/mp3 sound system
Carbon fiber vinyl over side panels and tail

All around it's a great city commuter bike, easy to flick around but since it is from 1995 and carbureted, it seems like the planets have to be aligned in some way and the air temperature has to be exactly 21.75 celsius for the motor to run perfectly.

I'm planning on selling it at the start of the next season.

Nice bike Mr. Z. I used to have one in the US, with Kerker exhaust and a Yoshimura cam. A bit heavy for a 400, thanks to the four cylinders, but hence really smooth all the way to redline. Wish I still had it!

A couple months back I decided that it was time for something newer and more powerful. I wanted something modern, with fuel injection and ABS. My choice was a 2007 Kawasaki ER-6n, also known as the Ninja 650R in the States.

I am extremely happy with this bike, the inline-twin motor is weird but it sounds deep and mean. I don't have the excitement of revving to 15K RPM on the MKAD, but the low and mid-range torque of the 650cc twin makes me a happy camper.

Overall, it flicks easily in traffic and has that power if you need it. It does 0-100 in a bit over 3.5 seconds. You only start feeling the lack of power at ~170km/h, but at that
point your neck is slowly being torn off by the headwind.

It's perfect for the city, and the seat is comfortable on long rides. I haven't tried it but I've heard no complains about the pillion either when riding 2-up. A good mix for those that want a sporty bike with the comfort of a tourer.

Mods I've done so far are a Healtech gear indicator and a Arrow Special Parts exhaust.

Can you tell that I like naked bikes?

It must be a British modesty thing that forbids me to answer this question!

Yeah there is a dealer on Krasnopresnenskaya right by the zoo, but there is also a grey dealer on Ryabinovaya street with lower prices, although not officially authorized by Harley.
