    My favourite song

    Lauren Christie
    The Colour Of The Night

You and I moving in the dark
    Bodies close but souls apart
    Shadowed smiles and secrets unrevealed
I need to know the way you feel

    Chorus
I'll give you everything I am
And everything I want to be
I'll put it in your hands
If you could open up to me oh
Can't we ever get beyond this wall

Cause all I want is just once
To see oyu in the light
But you hide behind the colour of the night

I can't go on running from the past
Love has torn away this mask
And now I like clouds like rain I'm drowning
And I blame it all to you
    I'm lost God save me

    Chorus

Cause all I want is just once
    Forever and again
    I'm waiting for you
    I'm standing in the light
But you hide behind the colour of the night

Please come out from the colour of the night
La garde meurt mais ne se rend pas!

Punchy it used to be my fav years ago
...i don't have permanent fav song i have forever fav bands tho

as for the fav song of this month...i'm surprised but think it would be this one

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
    Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

    Pleased to meet you
    Hope you guess my name
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

    I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
    Anastasia screamed in vain

    I rode a tank
    Held a general's rank
    When the blitzkrieg raged
    And the bodies stank

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
    Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    I watched with glee
    While your kings and queens
    Fought for ten decades
    For the gods they made
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    I shouted out,
    "Who killed the Kennedys?"
    When after all
    It was you and me
    (who who, who who)

    Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
    (woo woo, who who)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    (who who)
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
    (who who, who who)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
    (woo woo, who who)

Just as every cop is a criminal
    And all the sinners saints
    As heads is tails
    Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
    (who who, who who)

    So if you meet me
    Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
    (woo woo)
    Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
    (who who)
    But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
    (woo woo, woo woo)

    Woo, who
    Oh yeah, get on down
    Oh yeah
    Oh yeah!
    (woo woo)

Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame

    Oh, who
    woo, woo
    Woo, who
    Woo, woo
    Woo, who, who
    Woo, who, who
    Oh, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAah

    A Deeper Love

    performed by Aretha Franklin
produced, arranged and mixed by C&C Music Factory

    People let me tell you
    I work hard everyday
I get up out of bed
    I put on my clothes
ĎCause Iíve got bills to pay
    Now, it ainít easy
But I donít need no help
I got a strong will to survive
    Iíve got a deeper love
    Deeper love
    Deeper love inside
    And I call itÖ

    CHORUS:
    Pride
    A deeper love
    Pride
    A deeper love
    Pride
    A deeper love
    WoahÖ
Itís the power that gives you the strength to survive
    Pride
    A deeper love
    WoahÖ

Now Iíve got love in my heart
    It gives me the strength
To make it through the day
Oh, love pride is have respect for yourself
And thatís why Iím not looking for
    Hand outs, charity
    Welfare, donít need
    Stealing, dealing
    Not my feeling
    No back stabbing
    Greedy grabbing
    Lying cheating
'Cause Iíve got a deeper love
    A deeper love
    A deeper love inside
    Iíve got a deeper love
    A deeper love
    Deeper love inside
    And I call itÖ

    CHORUS

And I want to thank you
    For helping me see
Thereís a power that lives deep inside of me
Give me the strength to carry on
    Please be strong

    Pride
    A deeper love
    Pride
    A deeper love
    Pride
    A deeper love
    WoahÖ

    People let me tell you
    I work hard everyday
I get up out of bed
    Put on my clothes
    ĎCause I got
I got, I got bills to pay
    And it ainít easy
    It ainít easy
    It ainít easy
    It ainít easy
    Iíve got a deeper love
    A deeper love
    Deeper love inside
    Iíve got a deeper love
    A deeper love
    Deeper love inside
    And I call itÖ

    CHORUS X 3

    Morissette Alanis :: Ironic

    An old man turned ninety-eight
    He won the lottery
    And died the next day
    It's a black fly
    In your Chardonnay
    It's a death row pardon
    Two minutes too late
    Isn't it ironic...don't you think

    Chorus:
It's like rain on your wedding day
    It's a free ride
    When you're already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
    Who would've thought...it figures

Mr. Play it Safe was afraid to fly
    He packed his suitcase
    And kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damned life
    To take that flight
And as the plane crashed down
    He thought:"Well isn't it nice..."
And isn't it ironic...don't you think

    Chorus

Well life has a funny way
    Of sneaking up on you
    When you think everything's okay
    And everything's going right
And life has a funny way
    Of helping you out
When you think everything's gone wrong
    And everything blows up
    In your face

    A traffic jam
    When you're already late
    A no-smoking sign
    On your cigarette break
    It's like ten thousand spoons
When all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife

And isn't it ironic... Don't you think?
A little too ironic... And yeah I really do think...
Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out... Helping you out

    the perfect woman?

    Don't Explain

    Hush now, don't explain
    There ainít nothin' to gain
    Iím glad that your back
    donít explain

    Quiet baby, donít explain
    there is nothiní to gain.
    Skip back the lipstick
    don't explain.

You know that I love you
    and what love endures
all my thoughts are of you
    for I'm so completly yours
Don't want to hear folks chatter
    ícause I know you cheat
    Right n' wrong don't matter
when youíre with me, my sweet.

    Hush now don't explain
don't you know youíre my joy and youíre my pain.
    My life is yours, love
    don't explain

All my thoughts are of you, for I'm so completly yours.
I don't want to hear nobody chatter
    cause I know you cheat,
    right n' wrong don't matter
when your with me, my sweet.

    Hush now, don't explain
youíre my joy, youíre my pain
    My life is yours, love
    don't explain.

The irony here is that the examples mentioned are not actually irony. They're tragic, unfortunate, unlucky or inconvenient.

True irony implies a contradiction or unexpected result between reality and perception. A barber who's bald, is a classic example. A man who cuts and works with hair all day, and hence would be perceived to have much of his own, actually has none. Similarly, a song supposedly chock full of examples of irony, contains none (by true definition of the word).

Was this actually intended by Ms. Morissette or did she simply misunderstand the meaning of irony ?

    You decide.

    Cheers,
    Intourist

P.S. Sorry, wasn't trying to be a killjoy or criticize the song, just pointing out an ironic trivia item.

Why, Thank you. It was still kind of ÁŗŪůšŪÓ of me to point it out, but it was one of those dull moments during the day when I had nothing better to do.

well, i'd say she meant sad irony, at least we have such a notion describing just the feeling she tells about. Tis sth between frustration and apathy...Such a phlegmatic song..
