Sherry? Interesting choice Maine Surfer, although one can get quite drunk if you do the whole bottle.

    Pint or schooner sir?

Pint of sherry? - 19% alcohol content, is it not? That sounds like polar bear territory !

went to a luch break with a colleague who just returned from Krym. Looking through wine section, he recommended this particular kind of Crimean sherry. Looked at the label and my insides warmed up a bit - 19.5 alcohol. Almost 40 proof. Never had it before, said what the heck and bought it. Now it's getting ready to be opened

    TGIF indeed...

enjoy the sherry, Maine...but why wait til 6? Surely there is some sort of excuse to crack that bottle open on a Friday afternoon...:-)

    Have a great one!!!

Maybe this should be in Recipes, but is that Crimean sherry reasonably priced? I love to cook with decent sherry, but prices for Spanish sherry are prohibitive here.

It means like a copy :представлять пародию; пародировать; искажать, for example. There is no such thing as Crimean Sherry, sherry can only come from Jerez, like Coganc from Cognac etc.

Enjoy it whatever, if it tastes good and has the desired affect why care?

Bear, I don't know as of yet. My friend swears by the brand, Massandra, he stayed in a hotel right next to the winery for two weeks, said it was unbeliavable. The bottle I got is 1998 Massandra sherry. Was pretty cheap, like 170 R or something like that.

I'll try in very very soon and let you know if it's any good!

170 is reasonable indeed - will chance it anyway as I'm sure it is more than good enough for cooking - and I'd have to go to Barcelona duty free to get Spanish sherry at that price!

    - no plans to go to Barcelona, unfortunately. The only time I ever did cook with real sherry was when I returned from there with 2 bottles that I doubt cost me more than 5 USD a piece. Flight home was delayed 7 hrs due to fog and I had little to do except look for bargains in DF - came into Moscow with SEVENTEEN bottles and no questions asked!
