The cheapest I could find were $1250 with Delta.

Go to www.avantix.ru and check. I just checked out of curiosity, and within two seconds found an Aeroflot flight for 800 and an SAS flight through Copenhagen for 699. You may have to play with availability dates, but there are definitely flights for cheaper than 1200.

Not Delta! No. Slower than Russian babushka with grocery cart. Horrible service.

Aeroflot is the fastest and possibly the cheapest. I believe they have direct flights from NY and Seattle. Save yourself about 10 hours of grief.

also try www.orbitz.com
i found some delta stuff from SFO to SVO at $750 (one way!) for mid July, so i can't fathom a over $1K for august RT. just don't go direct thru the airline online if you can help it.
also check finnair, they sometimes have good deals.

I am with the folks who say Aeroflot. Just came back from California and paid about $2700 for three round trip tickets during the May holidays. That included the extra almost 900 to get from LAX to SJC cause Aeroflot stopped flying to SFO. Delta was a bit more and the others well.. nuff said.

Aeroflot has special rates on their web page from time to time and it is certainly worth a look.

i'd have to add one small word of caution. in april i did aeroflot / alaska / america SFO -> LAX -> SVO. well on returning, we were delayed out of SVO, meaning we were late to our connection in LAX. and alaska and american both refused to honor my ticket to SFO. and i quote "even if you were not late, we would not honor this ticket." so i was screwed out of that chunk of my ticket and had to pay nearly $300 at united to get the funk out of LA. and why? ae-ro-flot. they are like the social pariah on the airline playground.
so be wary and schedule your lay-overs carefully.

I still maintain that Delta is good, though I have never experienced a Delta flight in coach - so I yield that may be different.

hmm interesting....
So Aeroflot would be the way to go then - if you don't have a lay-over?
