I am probably opening myself up for a backlash from the Russian population on this site, but let me ask anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks that it's incredibly stupid and funny looking when Russians wear sunglasses indoors? I'm not talking about when they step inside for a second and then back out again, but when they walk in to the building for work, ride up the elevator and go all the way to their desk with them on. Or in pubs/restaurants, etc. They sit and eat with them on, even though it's dark inside (and sometimes outside).

Is there a fashion trend I'm not aware of? Is there a mass occular disease going around?

Your thoughts, please.

No you are not. It IS funny when people walk around with this 'I'm a ****ing star' look on their faces. Worst of all, it's contageous.

Ghost, you are so rude....
you are all wrong, Russians wear sunglasses (big, visible...half of the face ...etc) indoors just because their eyes are very very very sensitive!
Sun is very dangerous here, do not joke with that.
How could you think it was just to show off??
:D :D :D

Well, to add a bit of a twist to Ghost's assertion...I'm American, and I wear my sunglasses indoors quite often to hide the black eye(s) my Russian wife is always giving me.

Kakrout is right, it's a very serious problem. You see, because of the latitude, in summer the sun shines down on Mother Russia much stronger than say, Ibiza (where are the REALLY cool people are, anyway), and in fact infiltrates even very dimly-lit clubs and places like Vogue Cafe. So it is absolutely imperative for ocular health to wear shades at all times.

how many Russians were seen wearing sunglasses indoors? were all of them Russians?
was their number big enough to make a general conclusion for the whole Russian population?

market research, you know ;)

Ghost

Heh...sarcastic replies are all noted and appreciated :)

Allice hit it on the head, though. Do all these people think they are THAT important or something? Reminds me of the 10th grade.

And I didn't make a conclusion about the whole russian population. Just those I saw in sunglasses inside. And yes, they were definitely Russian.

People who wear sunglasses on TV are exempt from this discussion. They are, after all, on TV. I'm talking about the girl who comes into the cafe for lunch, sits down next to me and is wearing the dark shades like she's some sort of Princess hiding from the paparazzi.

There also seems to be this highly annoying habit now with Russian women bringing stupid little dogs into the cafe to sit with them. What is that all about?

Ghost you are only showing how old you are. It has been the fashion for a long time. Remember when you were really small and your uncle always took his pants off when he came to visit you and said they weren't needed inside. And after your mother had the police take him away she told you that the fashion changed and now old men should wear pants when they visit you.
Same thing with the sunglasses, sort of.

Where the hell do you see people wearing dark shades? I thought the trend from last summer -- lenses that aren't dark at all and don't really seem to serve any purpose -- was still in effect?

I feel like explaining some aspects some of Sun Glasses basics. In Russia, mostly in Moscow, there is such a phenomena as dress code, which is a feature of fashionable clubs and cafes. One of the key accessories of this dress code is expensive Versace\ D&C\ sun glasses and purses. So those party animals are simply used to have them around all day\ night long.
P.S.
Hope dear Ghost will now temper justice with mercy and put on his very best sun glasses.

It is not really dark in those kind of clubs, flashlights, so you may need glasses. And in case your eyes missed something you may have a most plausible excuse to feel it with your hands. Anyway there is the only chance to check it try it.

actually, not all sunglasses are dark, some are quite transparent, they are a good option for people whose eyes are too sensitive to the sun and light changes, like mine. For me they are quite a necessary accessory.

C'mon, what's the point of designer sunglasses if people can't see you with them on ? :)

I mean, yeah, of course it's pretentious and indicative of insecurity and what not, but let's take a poll, who here doesn't have a name brand pair of shades that they think they look good in ?

As annoying as it is, I *almost* want to defend it, because understand the base desire of "hey, I look good in these; I'll just wear them inside a bit too" I see a certain--albeit crass--justification.

No ?

Ghost they do it all the time in the Casino, me thinks they definately think it's cool and trendy, i've even had Cashiers in the past with them resting on their bonce at 3am in the morning :p
I will sometimes ask clients to remove their shades if they are not prescription, reason being of course i can't see if they are looking at the cards of the player sat next to them.
I get very suspicious of enormous lenses and frames, is there a scanner in dem specs ;)

What i loathe more than anything is people who have their shades hanging backwards from their ears, what's that all about?

Wow!! I guess none of you have been to Italy or Spain.

It's absolutely compulsory to wear designer sunglasses indoors. You're not a real person if you don't.

The funniest thing are the people who can only afford one pair of designer shades and have to wear either a clear pair and squint on the beach or a dark pair and not be able to see anything in the clubs and bars.

...and nobody has told them that you can't tell the difference between the fake ones for 6 euros a pair and the real thing!

Me? I wear non-brand, drop dead gorgeous shades with style as a matter of principle - You can't buy good taste!!

Whatever you say, but God is in small things ( ). How do you make your judgment about a woman? Looking at her hands, haircut, shoes. French say: its better to have a wrinkle on the face than one on the stocking. The style is about accessories and its better to have them in best quality, at least in a good one. Of course, you dont need to exaggerate and wake up at 3 am still in your sunglasses, but . When in Rome do as Romans do. Cest la vie.

i agree that a miniskirt is an invitation to touch that's why i do not wear them. a room for imagination is yet a different thing, it is not connected to skirt length as Fa-Q said already with almost the same words.
