The following was written during the war from the British Ambassador to Moscow to Lord Pembroke in 1943. It has only just been released under the Freedom of Information Act.

It took me 20 seconds to catch. (My great-great-grand-mother was a Turk as well (as I found out not long ago), but I do better than this man ;-) )

Boscoe, could you help us make out what the resolution in the upper left corner is? Could be funny as well...

Looks like it says:

His (or this) brilliant report of 47 years. It was released recently under the freedom of information act or something like that!

No. Not too funny. :)

No. Not too funny. :)So what's so funny there ? :cheerleader: It's funny that the English Queen's Ambassador is the gay... ain't ? But why should it be so funny ?

Nothing about being gay there. Read the Turk's name out loud to yourself and then you'll see why the Ambassador says we all feel the same way....

LOL

I read this word out loud to myself and I will hear who I am.

Good idea, DJB! But it dates back at least to my student times. I remember we had kind of (wild) game:
one student says a word like the aforementioned, second student says the same word but louder, third student says it louder still and so on... endind up shouting these words echoing all over our campus. And this was fun. ;-)

I recall that around the time of the Yom Kippur War in 1973 newsreaders would hesitate before mentioning the name of the Egyptian foreign minister:
Ishmael Fakhmi

If your colleague is a male I would definately have a problem introducing this man to a fellow business associate without maintaining a serious face, "I would like to introduce you to Mr. Вагина." however, if the colleague is female...? I would like to introduce to you Ms. Вагина." Ok, that may be a problem but never funny... lol

I see, you are very far from the Russian language :-) In Russian the ending a means a she, ie.e if it was a man he would be a Vagin.

Football fans may know of LUCIOUS PUSEY. Linebacker at East Illinois University. Once he became famous he petitioned to have his name changed to Lucious Seymour (Seymour being his mother's maiden name). This only aggravated things as he then became known among the fans as SEYMOUR LUCIOUS PUSEY. No kidding. See this: College Football: You Say Seymour, We Say Pusey, Let's Call The Whole Thing Off (http://deadspin.com/sports/college-football/you-say-seymour-we-say-pusey-lets-call-the-whole-thing-off-219327.php)

I knew an American kid named Randy Cox. The Americans didn't get it, but the Australians thought it was a riot.

Far from clear. Please explain...

There are Last Names. They have endings, which are located after the words' roots. In Russian, ending 'a' indicates a female gender; 'consonant' ending usually indicate a male gender. Not always.

ALso there are typical National endings for Last names:
~ enko - for Ukrainians
~ iev(a) - Asian countries

et al.

I haven';t woken up yet, can't remember all the nationalities so early :5387:

Nowhere near as bad but I think amusing is the memo sent round during the war which had to be signed off by Churchill. His aide thought the request was balls(rubbish), but realising it would go next to Winnie himself he wrote on it "Round Objects!"

Churchill then added "Who is Round? And to what does he object?"

I had a co-worker from South Africa called J. Kant. One time the cops banged at his door because the party was too loud. They asked him his name and he replied 'Kant'. The cops almost took him.
