One of my ex-colleagues is well over his 90 days on his 90/180 multi-entry business visa so he's asked me to ask the following questions:

1/ What are the implications?

2/ How can he "right" this "wrong"?

3/ What are agencies charging for these new visa services and which ones are the best?

1. He's breaking the law, and if he gets caught, then he could be deported, and find it very hard to get a visa in future. But it's not clear if anyone is checking up on this - I have been told by one visa department that the FMS is meant to be checking, but they have no mechanism for doing so. If he has been in Russia for a consecutive 90 days or more, then they could pick this up at the border, but again, it's not clear whether the Border service is doing so.

2. Given that he might not be caught, my advice would be to leave the country immediately, so as not to compound the error. Then the best thing to do would be to try to get a business visa, and I think there are now agencies that will do this for you. Obviously this depends on his circumstances, and why he wants to be in Russia. If he can, it might make sense to start the the process for a residency permit.

3. No idea what the agencies are now charging. I have heard that Наши принципы (http://www.pratos.ru) can do you a work visa, but no idea what they charge. If I needed any other sort of visa, I'd go to Russian Visa - Online Orders, Free Consultations, Russian Consulates Directory (http://www.visahouse.ru). I think the only way forward is to get a legal work visa, by any way that you can.

They DO control this at the border. You friend is about getting into a serious jam.

He left Russia last Friday and came back today. No problems at all.

Yuriobass - on what do you base your "statement"?
