:ak:This is very upsetting... After I posted my short CV with my real e-mail at the employment section of The Moscow Expat Site I started to receive 3-5 scam e-mails daily. Here is the question to Administrator: do you filter somehow the users of this website? Can you ban every user from Nigeria? Are there any chances to edit my resume and remove my e-mail from it?

:ak:

Personally I receive 50 to 100 e-mails to my real address. And I don't make a problem of it. Spam or scam - it doesn't matter.
And what do you mean - to filter users of this site??????? To put them through a sieve?
You suggest to ban all users from Nigeria? Oh girl you go too far.

My advice - if you do smth (e.g. publish your e-mail address), then be ready to take responsibility for that. And don't complain.

well, you probably used to it and seems to never mind that your e-mail compromised, but it is not OK. It is not normal to expect or receive tons of scams as a respond to published resume...!!
It should be some sort of security on this website, I don't know what. I am not an IT professional, my first guess would be to ban Nigerian users...or use any other criteria to filter such users!!!

Yes - it is not OK, when you receive so much of scams.....
I have the same problem - but not from this site....

On my opinion - it has smth more with your server, where you have your e-mail.....
They should provide you with some spam-filter....or you may search and install it yourself.....

I am not IT specialist either, but I know, that when you put mail address somewhere - doesn't matter on Forums or on open sites - it is like a bell-ring for Spamers - and they will send you spams anyway....

Personal advice from own experience: create special address for giving it on social places.......and keep your private matters on other address....
this would be not so bothering)))))))))))

There IS a way to avoid having your email address compromised - it is called Private Messages. The forum rules (http://www.expat.ru/forum/announcements/announcements.html) against posting personal information are for your protection. Anytime you post anything on a public site, you are taking a risk that it will be harvested by spammers, scammers, and anyone else.

If you simply must post an email publicly for some reason, sign up for gmail, hotmail, yahoo, mail.ru, or some other free service and use this address as a temporary one. Gmail has an awesome spam filter built in, and although I receive 100's of spams everyday I only ever see maybe one or two of them a week in my inbox.

-------rules excerpt---------
22. No Personal information should be posted on the site - this includes telephone numbers and email addresses. The only exception to this are posts made in the Marketplace (http://www.expat.ru/forum/vbclassified.php) section - though you do so at your own risk. Posts including personal info WILL be edited or simply deleted. Non-personal contact info may be posted, such as how to contact a business, restaurant, embassy, taxi, etc..

do you not think that banning over 200 million people is a bit much. And how do you know they are from Nigeria? Anyone can make up anything about themselves. If you choose to put your own info online, be prepared to deal with the consequences. protect yourself, do not use your real name, or email, and guard your private details. These are simple rules.... along with the one that says you don't get anything for nothing..... so no one will give you free money. the whole world knows this... not just Nigerians.
Blaming the whole world of scam out there on Nigerians just seems like the easy way out for everyone instead of taking responsibility for our affairs.
