I am going on a backpacking trip to Azerbaidjan. Any tips rg visa? Apparently a travel agency can have it done for you for USD 100 or you buy it at the airport for USD 90.

Any other options?

Pyzhik,

You must be from the moon if you, a female, are planning to go backpacking in Azerbaidzan. Where do you want the ransom note sent to?

2 weeks ago I was having a great time in Nagorno Karabah. I am sure noone would be a ransom for me anyway ; )

Probably not, because women are usually smart enough to stay away from bad situations.

I am not sure my boss would sign my application for leave : ) Photography is just a hobby. Adventuresome, no: just willing to learn because all you want to know is not written in books

Ah Pyzhik, so THERE you are! How have you been sweetheart? Yes, I can vouch that you ARE a human being, and probably female (!). Nope, jolly lovely person who wasn't too offended at me throwing up all over her. I think I still owe you lunch! Call me when you're back.

I am addicted to LP: it is my bible. [The one on Moscow is crap though.]
Some friends told me that it is possible to buy the visa at the airport. I phoned the Consulate. They told me to contact Nata Tur [tel. 101 36 37] 2 photos + USD 100 (?!). You can pick up the thingy on the same day.

Tak chto, possmotrim...

I have the same question - can I get a visa at the airport? Or via a tour agency here in moscow?

You can get the visa at the airport when you arrive. No worries in Baku and generaly Azerbaijan is pretty cool. Not stricktly Muslim. (Stalin saw to that. He couldn't have anyone praying to anyone other than himself) I went up to Ganja too but a woman backpacking alone? Take very good care.
You are dealing with a different culture there. Muslims believe a woman should never travel alone.
