Language focus: Vocabulary (adjectives)

Rewrite the following sentences, using the following sentences, using the words in brackets. This is designed for students above advanced English level.

1. Hardly anyone turned up to watch the football match. (nobody)
2. I know you can produce good work when you put your mind to it. (capable)
3. Meeting the professor tonight will be a real honour for me. (proud)

Good try, you now have the idea. Here are the answers.

1. Hardly anyone turned up to watch the football match. (nobody)
Almost nobody turned up to watch the football match

2. I know you can produce good work when you put your mind to it. (capable)
I know you are capable of producing good work

3. Meeting the professor tonight will be a real honour for me. (proud)
I will be proud to meet the professor tonight.

And here are the next three;

3. He only wants to join the project because he thinks he will make some money out of it. (sole)
4. The chances of our finding someone to replace Mr Jones are incredibly slight (virtually)
5. I cannot understand why you are unwilling to give Max a job. (baffled)

1. He wants to join the project solely becouse he thinks.....
2. It's virtually impossible to find someone to replace Mr Johnes.
3. It baffles me why you are unwilling................

I'd add smth like: 2. It's virtually impossible for us to find.....
And you can also say 3. I'm baffled .....

actually I was thinking of saying "I'm baffled", but wasn't sure about right prepositions to choose which would link one part of the sentence with another. Now, thanks Mikey, I know :):):)

....or even: flummoxed (by)....
