I thought this story is long over? Russia got the money back and the French have sold the ships, I believe Egypt was an interested buyer? But the ships were built for Russian -Siberian- conditions. Would have left the Soldiers there in the dessert sveltering. And re building for -warm- conditions apparently is not an option? Wonder on top of it, how much does it cost the French taxpayer to keep the ships afloat, serviced and in good running conditions?

France agreed to sell its two formerly Russia-bound Mistrals to Egypt for €950 million ($1.06 billion) instead, and returned Russia's deposit on the vessels.

"The US's shameless interference in Egypt's internal affairs through its support for the so-called (Obama + Clinton) Arab Spring became a sobering moment for most Egyptians, who realized that the US was pushing them into an abyss." In this situation, Sitnikov noted that it was only logical that Cairo turned to Paris and Moscow "who, in spite of the pressure from Washington, were able to maintain contacts between one another."

One was sold to the Austrian Navy, the other is now proudly sailing in the waters off Liechtenstein.
