How do tell a clerk that I need to get a new zipper? "Нужна нови зиппер"? And what type of place does repairs to clothes? I have looked around my area of the Ozerki metro station in St. Pete, and did not find a place that said "одежди ремонт",

First of all you go and get the zipper your self, many shops has zippers, then off to the find a place that can replace the old zipper with the new one. Often clothes repairs is done at the more humble places where they sell clothes from a lot of small shops, the more fancy shopping mall's have them too but the price reflect that, we use one at Metro prospect Veteranov, it is next to the hair dresser, she is unreliably regarding timing, but the price is ok.

Today I was here https://yandex.ru/maps/-/CBujnJu8-A to buy a zipper, but ended here https://yandex.ru/maps/-/CBujnNVmlD (enter the perfume shop, behind the hairdresser is a small shop selling 'everything for sewing') for better color

Any “magazin tkani” should have a “molniya” (zipper)

No. Трикотаж means goods made of tricot type of fabric and sometimes knitwear (thin thread, small stitches).

No, zipper is the name in dark non-human capitalistic world. In exUSSR it is called "молния", molniya.

Yandex maps shows pretty enough places on ремонт одежды https://yandex.ru/maps/?mode=search&ll=30.331352%2C60.038706&z=14&text=ремонт%20одежды&sll=30.331352%2C60.038706&sspn=0.070038%2C0.017003&sctx=ZAAAAAgBEAAaKAoSCVRzucFQUz5AETvkZrgBBU5AEhIJ7Sx6pwLusT8RI028AzxpkT8iBAABAwYoADABOIO8oNeal67ChwFAup4BSAFVzczMPlgAYhx0eXBlPWJpeixnZW8sdHJhbnNpdCxvYmplY3RzagJydXAAnQHNzMw9oAEAqAEA

This is a case where Russian borrowed from the dark capitalist Canadian company 'lightning fastener" (although it was invented in the USA), although probably the Russian term came via the dark capitalist pre-revolutionary French term.

"Molniya" is also a direct calque (калька) from the French word for lightning, which is what it is in French, a 'lightning-closure" (fastener), or fermeture-eclair.

Calque itself just being a French word for borrowing/transposition.

Eclair sounds tastier than zipper or молния. ;)

The pastry supposedly got its name because eaten in a flash - like lightning.

I thought молния was the term for a popular type of orbit for Russian satellites - i.e., because it overcomes the problems with geostationary orbit reaching polar regions.

No, it's lightning. Also in the distant times of my totalitarian childhood there was молния type of telegram (priority transmission).
Молния in the space exploration was the type of Soviet telecom satellites (dual purpose, as usual).
