Irrespective of who's right, is that the way to settle border disputes?
If these things cannot be settled peacefully by the parties concerned they are usually referred to an international tribunal..

Yes, and again slogans in English, not Georgian, not Russian. Masters of puppets should see where their money go ;)

Georgian puppets consider South Ossetia as Georgian territory, how it's related to "international"? :D

A warning for wandering tourists who just might end up inside Russia without a visa. ..

Wow, what a HUGE Demonstration! ONE person!

Maybe it's the BBC correspondent's son? Earning his allowance? Looks like he wants to get back to his cell-phone.

Maidowns always are maidowns, even in Georgia. The main clown has escaped to Odessa, his helpers beg for lariz.

There is something odd about this story.

"In August 2008, tensions between Georgia and Russia escalated into a full-blown military conflict when Georgia tried to retake South Ossetia after a series of lower-level clashes with Russian-backed rebels."

A couple of new perversions of the truth from BBC:

In August 2008, there were no "tensions" between Russian and Georgia. There were no "low-level clashes" with "Russian-backed rebels."

This is the first time that I have seen Western media refer to "Russian-backed rebels" in the 2008 Georgia conflict. Ossetia and Abkhazia are ethnically distinct people from Georgians - for one thing, Georgians are Christian and Ossetians are Muslim. Now the BBC ignores valid reasons for conflict, dating back 1000's of years - ethnic differences - and is building a
new history - to claim that Ossetia was taken by rebels with Russia's help, and that Shaakasvili simply attacked to "re-take" the area.
Notice the use of "re-take" - as if Russia had seized it. and Georgia was simply sending troops there to rightfully claim what is theirs.

Another case of the Western media relying on old Soviet Union-era maps - when nobody much cared where one USSR state ended and another started because it was one big family - the USSR. Now that the USSR is no more, it has exposed the "wrong" boundaries (arbitrarily drawn by bureaucrats) in several places - such as Ukraine and Georgia, where these "countries" includes minority groups of indigenous people who are not accepted by the majority (as in Estonia) or want their independence (as in Abkhazia) or want to be part of Russia (as in Crimea).

However, the Western media and NATO now hypocritically scream about "territorial integrity" whenever one group wants to free from oppression by another group, and the West ignore's that group's fundamental human rights, such as self-detemination.

Onward BBC, re-writing history every day.

I think there is some correction. Abhazians are mostly muslims, while Ossetians - mostly Christians. Orthodox. In both Northern and Southern Ossetia, although many northern claim themselves as animists.

Ossetians use different language than Georgians?

It's different type of Christianity, isn't it? Georgian church is unique style of worship and what they believe, a long 1000+ year tradition, necessary to survive in that part of the world.

Interesting, Ossetians speak Ossetian, Georgian, and Russian. Probably the younger generations also know English...

Kind of like Scotland, Ireland or Wales, they have their own language, prefer to use English, but they still want some degree of autonomy from the UK.

Yes, Ossetians belong to other language group. And yes, Georgian Christian Church is unique, although mentioned Orthodox as well, they have own Patriarchate. Ask rusmeister about details.
