Took our goddaughter to DM to day ,the first time I was there in 1990 I bought a huge amount of Soviet mechanical toys and diecast cars , have them all in my son's house in the UK like a shrine to Soviet toys.
The have done an incredible job with the renovation but man is it expensive the place was fill with kiddies pestering their parents to buy the over priced stuff.....a really great day out .....the frozen yogurt up on the sixth floor next to the roof was good fun , my favorite part was the roof top views of Moscow.....very nice....one part however was only "restricted viewing " :)

Not only did he take the pic, he also built it:cool:

Vossy, when you say expensive, how expensive, is it to compare to prices in the UK?

Love your pics Nat, we really enjoyed the day out , pop up to the viewing place next time , go to the 6th floor and to the right of McDonald's there is a door which will take you to the viewing place and also pass the very nice childhood mini museum which we also liked very much , and not many people seemed to know about it , here is a pic and I am sure you will know what I am talking about , the gramophone is playing old children's stuff from way back , beautiful:)

I didn't know about it and I live next door. The remont is great but I miss the feel of how it was. It's not the same. Now just Euro crap.

expensive, overpriced China made crap. DM lives from his old name. -locals- go there, like to the GUM,or the TSUM, to have a look. but not buy.
While the DM is indeed nice to walk around on a rainy day. there is lots to look at. nice things indeed. renovations have been done well. but the feeling is gone. where are indeed the wooden building blocks, things that kids could PLAY with. most of it is mechanical crap ( transformer types) and stuff from the latest comics. kids are overpowered and influenced by the mass ads before and in-between these films and of course -must have it-. because the neighbors have it also. and one can not NOT have it, peer pressure is very strong. and one would not want to be left out in kindergarten or school, showing off the latest and newest gadget or gimmick. never mind it will land in the toy box after a wee\k or two. because something new has come up. and again it is a -must have- thing.
anyone still remember having played Monopoly for a whole month ( carefully cleaning away the board, so no house or hotel will fall off? starting once more after homework and chores were done? we did it...)

Not only did he take the pic, he also built it:cool: One can only speculate as the man won't answer the (simple) question - nothing new there! :)

Know what you mean Ben but life moves on .....we are so pleased that the children , teens and parents who visit us still like to play board games like Имаджинариум and also good fun with UNO which gets everyone involved :)
