The proportion of people here in the USA on SSRIs or other mental health drugs is huge; seriously, I saw a study that 1 in 5 women is on a mental health drug of some sort.

My own family is hugely medicated and when I point out to them that, like a bell curve in statistics, mental health drug use should be proportionally similar across countries, yet it's not, they've got no good answer for the discrepancy - they still think drugs are the best answer. The best they come up with is, well, in Russia they drink instead of using mental health drugs....well at least alcohol doesn't make you hear voices and want to committ mass murder!

...I think it's clear now how Americans voted for Obama TWICE and how they now might vote another Clinton and Bush out of the primaries into the General Election!

It's all part of the plan. The first thing Obama says after this shooting is take all the guns away.

How can you take a story involving opiate substitutes and create a thread about antidepressants?

That's like saying that Uncle Wally and Jas are related because they both have two legs.

u know, this shows the real problem is that there are too few guns.

Just like schools, where of course the real solution was to have more guns and for teachers to be packing.

Similarly, the real solution here is for the priest to be packing. Either PPK or AK-47 is fine.

Instead of having a Church Organ, they should have had a Stalin's Organ!

The story itself mentions SSRIs and many of the other well-know mass shooters (Batman movie, Columbine, there are others) were on SSRIs. That's how the link was made, not by me but by the writers of the story.

Beyond the link between SSRIs and the shooters though it's so sad how Americans have been drugged. When my wife first came with me to the States she noticed how it seemed like every second person on the street was talking to him/herself.

It's because of underf@$k and illusions.:eh:

Well... maybe it depends on area... I've been to SJ, LA, LV recently, and Portland/Seattle + near Boston a decade ago, no such impressions... Though these visits were for 4-10 days, not more.

scared the shi** out of the germans. because they learned quickly, when the music started, the whole orchestra is soon to follow....And whoever has heard a full battery firing, even if it was in a film only, will understand it.

Yeah so touching Carl.

He is right about one thing, Americans kill more Americans than any terrorist have. Terrorist have killed 20 Americans in one year, this guy got 9 in a few minutes add up the rest and you have 1000 times more than those killed by terrorist. Hell the police killed over 600 already this year many of them unarmed.

What about the bankers and all the money they stole with fraud that went unpunished.
That money, that could have gone into the health system instead. Probably more again than the police shot.

In the UK, the recent changes to the health/social benefits as a result of "austerity" has led to 60 extra deaths(as of a few months ago). bankers still dining with the elite politicians......

Rich people and their corporations will only make more money and have to do less charity because of "austerity". They own the hospitals and drug companies. I heard that now some hospitals have been charging people with out insurance 1000% more than the normal cost. Governments are no longer for the people but for the corporations that provide them with money for reelection and bribes.

But the president praised the families of the victims for the forgiveness they had shown.
He said it was "an expression of faith that is unimaginable but that reflects the goodness of the American people".

The goodness of the American people of which of course he is a shining example by presiding over US violence abroad. The opportunism ! The victims of the shooting give Obama an opportunity to do PR and to congratulate himself

Why all the hate for rich people and business on this forum? Is everyone here a closet socialist? Who among us doesn't like having money? Andhow many of the tax-the-rich philosophers around here go silent if it's their wealth that's going to get taxed more??

Funny thing about the idiot socialists, they never think of the unintended consequences of their policies. Case in point: during the Dodd-Frank dwbates in the USA, the banks warned the government, if you regulate our ability to be profitable, by limiting the interbank fees we charge, we're going to have to find another way to recoup this money. The socialists plowed ahead with their new regulations, and now every gas station you go to charges a six cent per gallon surchage for credit or debit vs. cash. LMFAO, this is yet another hidden tax they hoisted on us American saps, under the guise of sticking it to those evil big banks.

It's not just about a certain tax rate. there are many things that effect the majority.
Like a minimum wage, that you can actually live on.
breaking up the media monopoly so as to restore democracy. (just one example murdoch owning 176 newspapers)
corrupt government officials giving dream deals to corporations, at the expense of the people
allowing monopoly capitalism rather than capitalism.
You seem to think regulation is an unnecessary cost or restrictions when in fact there is some reason why there are regulations - an even worse evil without them.(clinton repealing glass-steagall act). To think these big players will simply do the right thing and not take advantage of the dominant market position is stupidity - no experience with dealing with raw GREED.

Speaking of banks, like charging 40GBP late payment fees if you pay a credit card one day late. or overdrawn fees. This is simply exploitation and profit generation of the vulnerable. It's not the case "well you know it must be paid on time" - they take advantage of human nature of the not so smart.

The sheeple like it that way. The rich like to eat sheep.

You must be a communist! How could you not want to suck everybody and everything dry until humans are extinct? Some people sing better, some people dance better and some people make money better. Shouldn't they decide who can dance and sing?

You know, banks also give people who know how to manage their finances awesome perks: great interest rates for borrowing, free cashier's checks and notary services, free ATM withdrawals, no fees for international transactions, etc.
...though I'm sure your answer to this detail is that "the poor" do not have "equal opportunity" to these perks. What a load of bull! America offers the closest thing to a free market with equal access to all, inevitably some do not succeed because we are all of different character and ability, and you all blame the system for economic inequality that is inherent to humans and must exist! Again I highly recommend you read or watch "Status Anxiety" for insight on this whole idea of inequality in America.

As for the minimum wage issue, that has been disproven as an economy boosting tool so many times by so many objective studies! Are you willfully ignoring the science on the minimum wage issue so your party can win some votes while you screech about living wages?? That's what the Progressives in America successfully do, election after election!

Yes, they are zombified, as Russian Lad puts it, so drugged they will repeat the same voting mistakes...

My sister has 3 kids, one of them was "medicated" from age 6 or so and now he is adult. He has always looked up to me, but I try to avoid making any relationship with him, it's like talking to a block of ice, and when I talk to him, he becomes suspicious I am part of the "conspiracy." He told me that Bill Clinton and George Bush had had a secret meeting at his office (he did have a job for a while where he was alone in a big office monitoring main-frame computers). Feeling a guilty conscience, I called big sister her to ask her his phone number, but he is now living in his car. On the other hand, her daughter, never touched any drug except maybe an occasional aspirin, is director of nursing at a hospital - very successful.

Try to talk to sis about this, no, that would just get her defensive. All I can do is try to salvage some people who are just getting started and try to get them to back track and take another road.

I was with some black friends on Friday evening, and my auction buddy said his son is in jail, for breaking and entering. Teen had a plea deal for probation, but surprised everyone when he announced to the judge he wanted a trial, so behind bars he awaits his trial. Turns out he has been medicated since a child, too. What can I say to dad? Nothing. Sure, dad made a mistake, but the "professionals" - teachers, educators, psychiatrists, convinced him that drugging his son was necessary.
