Friedman tells it how it is , direct, no bsing about, he isn't a politician so talks sense.
It's not only in America's best interest to split Germany and Russia but for England's too.
If I remember correctly he talks about America wanting conflicts around the world, neighbours fighting each other,be it in the Middle East or Europe, it's about Keeping countries busy, instead of growth. .

I'll start a new thread. ..

So... wouldn't it be good for Russia to join, or at least engage more with the EU?

Of course, that's in Russia's best interest and the EU's to have a good relationship, but America sticks its nose where its not appreciated. ..Look at the peace agreement in Minsk ,it brought peace, but all that some want is weapons sent over to escalate the situation, leaders of France and Germany are againsts this, and rightly so.

The EU is no road to paradise, the UK is soon to hold an in or out referendum , many are annoyed being told what to do by a group led by the Germans, can you see the Russian leaders obeying too, I think not, these 3 countries are born leaders, and don't like to play second fiddle.

Thanks Judge, I mostly agree with your assessment, there isn't going to be much cooperation between Russia and the EU, or USA.

It is over an hour long, but a very pertinent part about Russia starts at about 48:00. Friedman predicted about a decade ago the strife in Ukraine would happen about 2015, and that Russia would start to disintegrate about 2020. He has now revised his view to say "...the next three or four years, the Russians may become toast..." and the poorer they become, the more dangerous they become. Moscow collects the money, then sends some back to the Oblasts. The money available to send, is now on the scale of the Yeltsin years.

Russia is trying to make friends with countries in the EU like Greece, Cyprus and Hungary, let's not forget opposition parties too....these groups are coming to Russia,it's not like Russia is going to them, what I'm trying say is, maybe it's the EU which might disintergrate first cos countries will leave and move closer to Russia, anything is possible.
From now to 2020 something needs to give,Russia and the EU can't keep going down this path....Leaders of countries will change by 2020,even Putin might step down in 2018,so we will see.

Many people in the EU don't agree with what their leaders are doing in regards to Russia. They know they are losing out on good business opportunities. Others are getting tired of big banks and corporations. Russia is no longer having problems and business is starting to grow again. America on the other hand is losing friends and becoming more isolated. I heard that the South American union is calling for all American army bases in South America be closed.

Can you name one? Don't keep it to yourself now!

One example that has been in the headlines: Greeks and other EU farmers are angry that they can't sell their fruits to Russia after Russians retaliated to EU sanctions on them
