Looks like the Cyprus leaders are learning from the Greeks, telling the EU, give is money or we will cosy up to the Russians. .

Party pooper.

The article said "getting" and that there is an existing agreement. Think glass half full!

Well... it would worth in political sense, not military one... if we consider anti-ship missiles like a basic weapon, current nuke-enabled Granit, Bazal't and Vulkan have 550-700 km range, not so big difference where to base them - in Syria or in Cyprus...

Update:
Not naval base, but military airfield near Pafos, and initially for MChS airplanes fueling and servicing, not immediate military ones - maybe later. Also fueling for navy ships in Limassol seaport.

And it looks reasonable - Russian offshore capitals need protection and evacuaton options :D

Generally the noise resembles me that old anecdote of USSR times -
- Rabinovich, people tell you've won a car in SportLotto?
- Not a car, but 50 rubles, not in SportLotto, but in preferans, and not won, but lost...

Just as much as the British air base.

Putin arrives at an airport, gets in the line for Customs.

Customs agent: "Occupation?"

Putin: "No, just visiting."
