I'll be in Moscow in the next couple of weeks and was wondering where the good English bookstores are and where the good places are that I can sit down with my laptop and unitilize free internet access via wifi?

Thanks!

And the list is not complete! You should go to The shop on Bahrushina pereulok, in front of the Cinema 'Pyat Zvezd"!

And there is a decent collection in 'Moscow' bookstore on Tverskaya 8!

Is there free wifi anywhere in Moscow? I know that Starbucks (on Arbat) has wifi but you need to buy a card. I heard that McDonalds (sometimes?) has wifi (is it free?) but with 30-minute limits. I have seen wifi stickers in the windows of Coffee House, but I haven't tried to use it; is it free?
Also, if you want to use golden wifi, can you just buy a card and get within range of it, or is it necessary to sign up for golden wifi in some official way?

If you're from the USA you might be sad to find here that there are no (as far as I understand) huge bookstore-cafes like Borders, Barnes and Noble, etc., like in the USA, where you can sit, drink coffee, use the internet, read books without buying them, etc.

Try this place. It's not an English bookstore, but it supposedly has free wifi. The books are more coffee-table books, so there is at least something to browse through. I personally have not tried it, but I have been by it now and then and it looks OK from the outside.

Doesn't Bookberry have a cafe inside?

There is free wifi in a few areas in the center around Tverskaya, supplied by "golden wifi". Places here (http://goldenwifi.ru/where/) (paid and free)
Also "Il patio", pseudo-italian restaurants offer free wifi to their customers, just ask a prepaid (free) card during your meal.
McDonald has free wifi on Pushkinskaya but time limited (20 min I think), so just spoof your MAC address after 19 minutes and get a new 20 minutes credit :)

"Biblioglobus" (Lubyanka Metro station) and there's one more book store on Myasnitskaya street

Brian-

check the link with all wifi locations in moscow - in english!

Yandex.WiFi: Where (http://wifi.yandex.ru/where.xml?city=213&lang=en)

also, i've used wifi in sodexho and patio pizza, all free. i have seen wifi sticker in Yaposhka, Yakitoria and many other - just look for the wifi sticker on the door. maynot always be free.

also, sometimes you have ask for a wifi card (prepaid by the restuarant) - like in patio.

good luck and enjoy your stay in moscow!
