View Full Version : Ya'll wanna do something?

06-03-2004, 23:45
I'm a non-working expat spouse. The other half works 50, 60 hours a week, comes home, eats supper, puts on jammies and dies in front of the TV. Not my idea of what life was going to be like living in Moscow. I worked 20 years for this?

I'm out there every day. Cruising the Metro (ok, lost half the time) haunting the streets, bumming around--by myself and getting tired of it. I'm fearless, friendly, fun, and ready for just about anything. Ex-UPS driver from Dallas. Female.

I have freedom and a few bucks to spend and would love some company on my wanderings.

Theatre? Clubs? Bars? Ice skating? Love hockey, celtic music, symphonies, aimless adventuring. It's difficult finding friends here so I'm asking......

Anybody wanna go somewhere?

Answer thread or my email is hrrngtn123@yahoo.com. I really mean it. No kidding.

There is a whole rowdy crowd that goes out on the town every friday. You should watch the notices and join in. That is a good place to make connections and find others interested in additional activities. PM me if you want more detailed info. :)

BTW Welcome!

Hey Pengy,

Take up golf in the summer, there are a few ladies in a similar position, and they have a great time at the golf course :)

Golf?!?! I appreciate any and all responses, I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I had something more booty shaking in mind than a politely well played game of golf. I just got out of the kid-raising- double-shifting-at-work fast lane and I'm looking for something a little meatier than genteel retirement. Geez, I'm not dead yet. And frankly, after all these years of drudge, I'm really ready for some free wheeling and just plain old foolishness. In Texas terms--whoo hoo, mama's ready to do some steppin' out. This is Russia and I came to experience it. Just tired of hanging out alone.

I see a lot of complaining and homesickness posted here, and maybe I just haven't been around long enough yet, but I really like like this place. I feel privileged for this experience. Russia is an exotic world. I can't stay forever and I don't want to miss a thing.

Anyway, thanks to those who responded, and I look forward to hearing from more of you.

I kinda hate to resurrect this (now becoming humiliating) post, but I do feel the need to clarify. I guess it's my fault for using what could be construed as suggestive phrasing, but it seems like there are some people out there who misunderstood what I was trying to say.

What I was trying to say was now that I have broken free of domestic responsibilities--mothering, working all the damn time--I was looking for some folks to have a bit of fun with, make some friends, explore around Moscow, etc. I thought that when I said I was a spouse with raised children no one would possibly interpret that as an opportunity for a liasion. I mean with all the beautiful young women around this town I figured a flickering light like me wouldn't attract any moths. I guess I was wrong.

So to the guy who wants to take me to the 'love cinema', thanks for providing me with the best giggle I've had in a long time. I really never did expect anything like that. But sorry, my husband says I can't go. Oh well. But please, no more offers like that, huh?

And for the folks who sent above-board emails I do appreciate it. My email box is usually empty and it was great to see your messages in there. Made my day. I'm definately gonna answer everybody who was nice enough to respond, but just now thinking of what to say. Thanks.

Hey expat-spouse,

You sound fab - I can't tell you how rare it is to find people who write so delightfully online these days! There's a group meeting up at Uncle Sam's on Friday (check out the "Information" forum) - I'm new to these parts also (day 12 in Moscow today - woo), but plan to be there with bells on (or off, depending on how wasted I get - feel me? :agree: )

Hope to meet you there! (or PM me and I'll send you my email so we can chit-chat off the boards)

So both you gals gonna' show up? That rocks, can't wait to meet you, and I promise you'll have a great time. We really do have a diverse and interesting crowd of people, and so far, not one of the people who ventured out from behind their avatar has turned out to be a jerk...seems it takes a pretty cool type to drop the mask.

BTW, can either of you actually shoot pool? Pengwn9, surely you've got some good ol' Texas honkey-tonk hustler moves in ya', right?

I tried to invite you to a movie festival where movies about love are represented. Well the best movies in the World. But I think the idea collapsed.
How a person can inderstand it like having a liaison with someone?...still can't understand it. I see no reason of thinking like that.
Maybe it's better for you to go to those places where there are crowds hanging out ...instead of "wasting" time and watching real masterpieces acknowledged by professionals???

all the best to your free time

Ouch. Mikael, I guess I deserved that, but maybe it was more of a language problem?

Dude, in America if some guy says he wants to take you to the 'love cinema', he's talking porn. Period. And not knowing that there was to be a film festival this weekend I jumped straight to wrong conclusion assuming>> that since this is Moscow, which looks to me to be the porn capital of the world, that Adults Only entertainment was what you had in mind. If that wasn't what you meant, I do apologize if you think I belittled your invitation. Sorry (I'm cringing with shame as I write).

Whew. I may end up apologizing for a week for starting this thread. Good thing I have plenty of practice eating humble pie. On the other hand I got an response email from one 'Razor Tongue' which I've been afraid to even open.......oh my.
