Russia simplifies rules of obtaining citizenship by foreigners

18 June 2014, 19:06

The Russian Federal Assembly on Wednesday adopted amendments to the national law on citizenship, which simplifies the rules of obtaining the Russian citizenship by foreign graduates from Russian institutions of high learning, entrepreneurs and investors.

The new rules are applied to the graduates from Russian institutions of high learning who received their diplomas after July 1, 2002 and worked in Russia for at least three years; to investors who have invested from 100 million roubles (approximately $2.8 billion) in the equity capitals of Russian legal entities.

Foreign journalists working for media outlets that distribute information in foreign languages will be relieved of duty to confirm their command of Russian and knowledge of Russian history when they receive accreditation to work in Russia.

2.8 billion. Is that dollars? So if you're a muliti-billionaire they're willing to fast track Russian citizenship for you? :farout: Well that should have the Tajiks flooding the Foreign Ministry.

And the bit about the journalists I failed to comprehend at all. They're going to be evicted? They're going to be taught Russian? They're going to be accredited with something and then unemployed?

Anybody else seen a better version of this flotsam?

No, that's a typo. 100 million rubles can't possibly be 2.8 billion dollars.

RUB 100,000,000 divided by 34.5(the current approximate price of one US$) = about US$2.9 million

2909341.00 if you take 34 as exchange rate...
don't think even an Oligarch will want to spend so much money for a russian passport.
they would rather -apply- to become governor- in a province and then get the passport for free... ( at least it will be a diplomatic passport)
