Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said he saw the new union as "a bridge between the East and the West".

Along with Ukraine under its new leaders, other former Soviet republics have refused to sign up for the union, although Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are considering membership.

"We lost some along the way: I mean Ukraine," President Lukashenko said at the signing ceremony. "I am sure that sooner or later the Ukrainian leadership will realise where its fortune lies."

at least the -elite- and celebrated the end of the cccp. if nothing else the old red barons were now -Mr.President-, with a fleet of Merces, private plane and other trappings the normal citizen could only dream about. They and their cronies amassed millions, most of it squirreled away in Austrian or Swiss banks.
and what they want this new -Union- to be? A customs union?
Something like the EU? they for sure can learn from the mess they have there...
A -USA-? they have only ONE president! and for sure no one of ones that are ruling the -stans- now will relinquish power.
good luck to them! without the participation of Russia it is doomed from the beginning, and THAT they don't want. at least not the majority of them.

This could bring together countries on the edge of the EU/Middle East/Central Asia. Iran, Georgia, Egypt even Turkey could join this new union

Bulgarians are known for their pro-Russian orientation, and may consider having a special association with the Eurasian union (if the EU will allow them)
