When you hear "Как дела?" what do you answer? "Спасибо, хорошо. А ... ?" ("and you?") What do you use meaning "you" in this case? Вы? Вас? Ваши? Something else? Check the correct variant here: http://ohrussian.com/check-yourself/1103.html. Good luck!

You need a thorough clean-up of RuEnglish on your site, spend some cash on a native speaker to proof-read this mess, dear colleague.:)

To teach is, according to the Socrates expression, to be a “midwife” who helps idea to be born, i.e. who helps a student “to born” new knowledge about the structure of the Russian language.

Which reminds me, I was watching The Bourne Supremacy yesterday, didn't really like it.:)

A professional native speaker may do it better.

On the other hand, does she have to know English very well to teach Russian to foreigners?

After the Ph.D. in philology with honors from MGU? Either that, or MGU needs to be dismantled... Knowing English well helps the overall communication and contributes to a more effective teaching as such, I would assume.

Have never heard of the notion of a professional native speaker. You are either a native speaker, or a speaker of a foreign language. If you are a professional, it can be any field where you can profess... But than I'd specify the profession: a professional native teacher of English or a professional native English interpreter / translator. Just a native speaker of English won't do it very well, believe me. Sometimes you can come across some native speakers who make weird mistakes in English.

She might have majored in Russian mainly.... And I know such people, they are professional teachers of Russian / Russian literature but their English .....is usually very very ..poor...

Let's agree to disagree. :::))))) it can be edited to a very good level by RL for instance. I am sure his articles sound very well in terms of English grammar and style.

You are correct, an awful lot of native English speakers write terribly.

But its a rare thing, for somebody to become totally fluent in a foreign language.

In saying that, I do have one friend here in Moscow whom I wonder consider fluent in English -- he currently works in journalism and his articles require almost no editing.

By the professional English speaker I meant a translator/editor/journalist and so forth, a native speaker who uses English professionally. I thought it was clear. A person like Okiey here.

I believe you okiey. I have read once two different versions of a text edited by two different native speakers of English, the two versions were very much different in outcome and to be honest I thought the first one was edited by a Russian interpreter. But I was wrong.

RL, I don't think you need an editor, what I think is, on the contrary, you need to become a writer and edit your own books, then have them published and start earning money ...finally...LOL

See you put a lot of efforts in writing here, for instance. If I were you, I would direct these efforts at something more useful.

Sana, you point taken, but professional editing is not just about correcting evident mistakes, it is also about making the style and the overall readability better, in some cases certain facts need to be double-checked and so forth. There is nothing humiliating in having your texts edited, in the translation industry it is a rather standard procedure, for example. I have some clients who pay me only for editing the texts that were translated by someone else. This is called "the rule of four eyes". Some companies even practice post-editing, when a second editor works on the already edited text, especially when the texts are written for large audiences and/or published.

I might be wrong, but I think they are just having some fun spamming the spammer. I believe the post is in the wrong place and may have been put here on purpose in order to remain for longer than just two weeks. Also perhaps an attempt to boost SEO.

Just my 2 cents

Hello dear all! Thank you very much for your interest.
Dear Vossy7! Thank you for your encouragement!

Dear Benedikt! I respect your opinion. Thank you. But if some day you decide to study Russian, you'd better not to judge a teacher of RUSSIAN by her level in ENGLISH. Otherwise you risk to waste your money. Would you like to listen to teacher’s perfect English instead of improving your Russian? By the way my Korean or Farsi is much poorer than my English. But it doesn’t mean that I “teach Russian the way I write” in other languages.

Dear RL! I believe you are a nice translator. Unfortunately my level in English doesn’t let me judge about it =) You are a specialist in English while I’m a specialist in Russian. If a simple question about structure of the Russian language deadlocked you it wouldn’t depreciate your qualification as a translator. And I’m a teacher of Russian, not a translator. Do you remember your English teachers? Were there native English speakers among them? And did you appreciate them for their fluent Russian? Or was it anything else in their work that helped you to obtain your high level in English? Think about your own experience and you will see that teacher’s level in a language that you know does NOT “contribute to a more effective teaching” of a language that you don’t know. I see you are fond of English and are proud of your deep understanding of it. That’s nice. Thank you for your activity.
I adore my profession and I like all of you!

Nobody questions your command of English, that in itself is irrelevant for teaching Russian.

The point was, if you go to the trouble of creating a website, you should see it through to the end and make it look professional. As Vossy said, its commendable you took the initiative ... but first impressions count and people do pay attention to presentation.

I am also a teacher of English by education, not just a translator (have taught foreigners Russian as well on several occasions). I cannot say I really enjoy any of the two activities though, I find even doing nothing and posting here more exciting:). Retrieving cash from ATMs and having sex with a woman also sort of winds me up. Anyway, never mind, Okiey has already said what I wanted to mention.
