On preparing my young teenage pupils for a quiz I found this one. A bit too much for the young ones I think. But perhaps you adults can have a go. In this case natives are also invited to have a go. There might be multiple accepted answers.

1. Name four countries or colonies where Portuguese is the major official language.

2. For each of the six inhabited continents, name one country where English is a major language.

3. Name four countries where Islam is a major religion.

4. Name four countries that have large deserts. BONUS: Make them four countries on four different continents.

5. Assume that it is now 3:00 P.M. in Washington, D.C. (and New York, Miami, Boston, Atlanta, etc.) Name five cities where it is not 3:00 P.M., and give the time in each. Only one of the cities you name may be in the U.S.

6. Name four countries where there are rain forests.

7. Name four countries with high birth rates, high death rates, and low life expectancy.

8. Name four countries with low birth rates, low death rates, and high life expectancy.

9. Name four countries which are major manufacturers of automobiles.

10. Name four countries which are major producers of petroleum. BONUS: Make them four countries on four different continents.

I had thought this was a forum for teachers to discuss topics with each other.

I might have slipped up here. I was thinking on the line of also communicating with non native ESL teachers and possible ESL teachers communicating with ESL students.

Yes there are certain threads, depending on the subject should be open only for teachers. But all opinions are welcome. I'm 50/50 about this one being sent to the cafe, especially as I stated welcome to all. It might have been a big mistake. More opinians please.

I immediately copied this to use with my students, so it's absolutely a useful post for other teachers. But it does sort of look like your earlier quiz for students and I for one would definitely like this site to be "for teachers" - though obviously we can't limit anyone checking it ... and thus we shouldn't say anything we wouldn't want the world - including our students - to read ... my 5 kopeks worth ...

On further thought, though, I wonder if this Teachers Discussion Folder will become by default the place where students post notes asking for teachers -- now that Lessons is in Marketplace, I guess they won't do that there ... and while a lot of the Students looking for Teachers postings do seem to be from schools trolling for teachers, I believe there also real students among the mix, yes?

I do believe the majority of the students requests are genuine, and those who are not are only damaging that schools reputation.

I do believe that schools should not be allowed in our directory, and they shouldn't be allowed in the Teachers. The few we have had here have vague and suspicious. Those schools seeking teachers should go to employment section down at the bottom, not in the teacher's folder nor the lessons section. That's my opinion.

All schools advertising here, please press the Alarm button on the top right of the post, and report it as spamming.

I can certainly pass you onto forums which specialise on teachers only, and you need a pin number to enter each section. But do you really want that??
I think its possible for expat.ru, as other sites are doing it.

But what we can do is make a few strict rules, of which this forum already has. And that is for example prevent others changing the subject and putting that particular off topic. It has already happened here, but I say no more of it. Let' be different, epat.ru might be the only one with a teacher's folder who has ot a bit of a mixture.

The more we attract, the more we trade.
