RBTH - The budget subsidiary of the Russian airline Aeroflot is called Dobrolyot (http://rbth.ru/business/2013/10/15/aeroflot_unveils_subsidiary_budget_airline_30829.html). The company’s value could reach $1.2-1.4 billion in four years, but only if airline regulations are changed for less maintenance costs.

Aeroflot’s budget subsidiary will be called Dobrolyot, the airline revealed on Oct. 10. This was the name of Aeroflot’s predecessor — a joint-stock company founded in 1923. “In our view, the name is very fitting and nice, as it conveys the idea of kindness,” Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Savelyev was quoted by Interfax as saying.

Dobrolyot was established on Oct. 4, Aeroflot stated in a disclosure filing. The former CEO of Avianova — a low-cost airline and project of A1 investment company that went bankrupt two years ago — will head the new airline. Dobrolyot will start flying in the spring or summer of 2014 and will be based out of Domodedovo. A spokesperson for the airport declined to comment.

The regulations are being changed of course, as we speak, otherwise Aeroflot would not have bothered with a budget subsidiary.

Watch out Yakunin:-)

It will have 8 new Boeing 737s to begin with; this is to reduce fuel and maintenance costs, which was a key factor in the failure of other Russian budget airlines. This venture looks well-thought out.

they should check out waht -fly Niki- or -Air Berlin- are offering.
for a short 2h hope no one indeed needs a meal of plastic chicken or rubber fish. a nice fresh sandwich and a good cup of coffee will do just fine. and if you book your meal on booking your ticket ( via the website) catering is done by one of the best caterers in Austria (do&Co). and the quality is also very high indeed. on top of it, if you pre book your food, you get served first.....

Yes, flights from Moscow to SPb, Rostov, Krasnodar, Samara etc below 2h have lightweight meal. Ekaterinburg, Perm, Nsk and others above 2h typically have standard meal. 9h flight to HK has 2 meals (dinner+breakfast). 13h flight to LAX has 3 meals.
