We've had two small coffee gathers so far, and decided to make the teacher's meetup a regular gathering. Meetings will be on the first and third Sundays of each month at Zen Cafe Beleruskaya, at 5 p.m. It's nice, quiet, non-smoking, and has counter service. We'll have a little sign out saying "English Teacher's Meetup".

The meeting is mainly social, but it's also nice to have a bit of a professional support group. We've talked about various projects like making audio and video teaching materials ourselves, a teachers' co-op, running language workshops, rates and conditions of work here, the visa mess, and so on. The first meeting, we actually lost complete track of the time and chatted for almost five hours... Much fun.

The next meetings are on the 16th of December and in January on the 6th and 20th.

By the way, showing up in person will get you access to the super elite members-only teacher forum. Yes, it's a tough qualification, but a pulse and the ability to navigate to a cafe will apparently prove your credentials as an English teacher. Hope to see you!

The next meetup is tomorrow, Sunday the 20th. Zen Cafe is still under remont so we're meeting across the street at Cafe Gran Milano. It's Tverskaya Yamskaya 1 dom 25 or 27, I forget which. It's smoking but well ventilated, and a nice comfy place. 5 o'clock start, probably going for 2 hours.

So um yeah tonight. Only remembered to post when my internet wasn't working... sorry this is so late!

Anyway, 6 pm, Cafe Gran Milano like last time, on Tverskaya dom 25. Leave one of the Beleruskaya circle line exits, go to Tverskaya and go half a block towards the center; it's on the right side if you're facing the center. Or go to Mayakovskaya, take the Tverskaya Yamskaya 1 exit, cross the street and go 3 or 4 blocks north (I come from the other direction and don't know if it's 3 or 4). Click here for a map. (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=55.775221,37.589142&spn=0.008424,0.020084&z=16&om=0&msid=118133963652635118846.0004453d776f20ec30a44)

We've decided that while the meetings are primarily for social time, but that we will always cover these 5 topics together:

1. Visas
2. Payment issues
3. Student shuffle (passing students off on each other)
4. Schools (recommendations and warnings)
5. Special projects/ entrepreneurship

Tony, Ira, and I at least will be there tonight - hope to see some other faces! Remember meetings are on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, so the next meetings will be February 17th, March 2nd, and March 16th. We plan to stay at Gran Milano for the foreseeable future.
