So we've just received the address of where we will be staying for our year in Moscow and it is on Bolshaya Dorogomilovskaya (seems harder to say than my current street, "Quincy") just west of the river. It looks like this is just outside of the Arbat district/neighborhood.

Can anyone give me advice or feedback on what neighborhood this is, if it is considered a safe/convenient/fun/good places to eat/whatever kind of area? It looks like there is a fair amount of green space in parks and such within 3 or 4 blocks. My dog will love that.

Any and all info that can help me picture my life in six weeks would be a big help!

I've spent plenty of time walking the street in google maps with street view, hoping for some personal experience of feedback on the area and the neighborhood too!

It's next to Kutuzovsky prospect - very nice area.

It sounds like a really nice area!

I wish I lived some place near....Unfortunately, my home is way out on the outskirts.

Of Moscow!

Moscow is my hometown after all...I'm talking about the area where I grew up and where my parents are still living.

A good place, almost center, but may appear a bit noisy. Though it depends on exact location of the building and windows frames.

Yes, it is safe enough, but be aware of pickpocketers near Kievsky railway station. And Kutuzovsky prospekt is govt highway, so you'll have the oppo to spend some time in traffic jams awaiting when Vovan or Dimon pass by...

Thanks, great info. I've heard there is some kind of large market nearby as well as a mall. Eating my way through Moscow is a big goal of mine, so I'm hoping there is no shortage of restaurants (ethnic a big plus) in the area!

Coming from DC, we are very used to sitting in traffic jams while huge motorcades go by. Interesting the first few times, infuriating after that! But no car for us in Moscow.

Yes, Dorogomilovsky rynok (farmer's market) - one of the best in Moscow. The Indian Spices shop is also close.

Yes, Dorogomilovsky rynok, just nearby, and Evropeisky mall, on the square of Kievsky railway station (50 m), both are not cheap ;)

If you go by Kutuzovsky prospekt a bit to peripheral direction, at right side there will be Sudar' restaurant (Kutuzovsky, 36a), again not cheap, but with a good old Russian cuisine.
