has anybody tried out the cruises between moscow and St Petersburg?I have not been with it all the way, but most of it, and can only recommend it, great experience, I love it, and we are going again this year too.

But be careful if you are allergic to churches and monasteries, you're passing a lot, and you also visit a few, some more interesting than others.

I was told by a guide from this company that is one of the better companies, they allow passengers to bring their own beverage for use on Board (outside the Restaurant and bar) and safety should also be good.
I know this guide personally we share the same citizenship, and since I have be on some cruses in Russia over time, then I can see that things in the last 10 years has improved very much, there is still a few steps to western European standard, but what is Russia suppose to do there, Russia should be Russia.

This is interesting. I never thought about St.P <-> Moscow by boat/ferry.

Are you German ? You spelled "boat" as "boot". Das Boot (The Boat) is a very good WWII (GPW) submarine movie.

Fodors (http://www.fodors.com/world/europe/russia/moscow/travel-tip_2264403.html)

Viking (http://www.vikingrivercruises.com/rivercruises/russia-volga-waterways-moscow-stpetersburg-2013/itinerary.aspx)

IMhO at this time of year, I'd rather do a Black Sea or Greek Isles cruise.

at least not between Moscow and St.Petes. The rivers, lakes and canals are frozen. the navigation season starts (from Moscow) from the beginning of May. and ends about the last week in October.
Lake Ladoga was still frozen 3 years ago and we had to delay for a week. and when we were there we were sailing through crushed ice, weird sound, because the kitchen is under the waterline and you look out at waterlevel, see all that ice...

and we had quite a few concerned voices on the ship ( passengers were americans, age 65 to 90...) if we are making it safely and not getting crushed.
our sister ship went up from Moscow a week earlier, were allowed only in a convoi, and the needed the help of an -icebreaker- to get through the lake.
