the Farmer's Almanach and also -our- (German language) Mandl Kalender-
combines the wisdom and experiences of many people over many, if not hundreds, of years. and more accurate than the million $ computer guys.

on a sideline, not being a english language native, what would -setting for eggs- (from the farmers Almanach) mean?

Make brood hen sit on eggs to make chicks, rather than use eggs for omelet.

would that make sense when the cold season starts? ( i grew up on a farm and we never did it that way.) one would have to feed the chickens all winter long with more or less no return since they are to young to lay eggs? fair enough though, they would be old enough in summer for that. of course not everywhere it is Austrian Alps with -25C in winter and a meter of snow.....
