Looks like project 941, Акула (Shark). Aggressive imperialistic NATO block has Typhoon name for it.

Yeah the Russians make it very clear and easy to distinguish their subs-their subs have character, unlike the Americans. It is a NATO designated Typhoon. Russians call them Akula, but NATO has that designation for the Russian Hunter/Killer attack sub. So there is always some confusion.

The Typhoon was the boat in the Hunt for Red October. From memory they are stationed up at Polyarny, near Murmansk. They easily match the US OHIO class for Ballistic missile firepower.

Yes, Akula name in NATO classification is used for multi-purpose subs of project 971 Щука-Б (Pike) and some others based on the project.
