View Full Version : Question about "Place of Work"

I'm surprised no other clueless Americans have asked this before, but this seems to this particular clueless American as a very practical question:

All of the business visa applications that I have seen online (Liga, waytorussia.ru, expresstorussia.com) ask for an employer's name and contact information in the United States. I'm applying for a business visa to go to Russia to find work teaching, though - that is to say, I'm unemployed. So what should I put for employer contact information? How important is it (could I put "ACME Anvil Co.")? Do anyone have any knowledge of anyone ever actually contacting the US employer listed on the application? Does anyone who was in my situation have any (carefully disguised) examples of what they put in that field?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm afraid that you WILL have to find a "sponsor", i.e. a business contact for your visa. Otherwise there will be no telex, no visa, no nothing.
Any company that tells you otherwise is fooling you. You need a business contact.
