I have just left a company that i worked for, for 5 years and now going to work for a new company. My work visa was under my old company which as i understand they cancel my visa and i get a transit visa.

I would like to know is it possible to extend my visa or get a new visa under the new company without leaving russia.

What sort of visa?

If its the new Highly Qualified Specialist you can get it transferred in Russia.

Then they should cancel it within 3 days of you leaving work and you have to get a new visa from your home country. You should be given an exit visa to leave Russia

You will also be tarred and feathered at the airport and have to board the plane with your trousers down and a lighted newspaper up your crack whilst the Soviet national anthem is played.

everything the above poster said is in theory true...especially the tarring at the airport...but the company will almost certainly be too lazy to cancel your visa and on two occasions i have worked for the second company on the visa of my first company until that visa has expired, then left the country and did a visa run for the new...never had issues at the airport.just understand you will be technically working illegally for the new company until your visa run. If you have been here for 5 years you should have gone for TRP which can help you avoid this.
