I'm looking for more information about possible volunteer work in Moscow, probably with charities.

Does anyone have any names or info that I can follow up on ?

Thanks

Volunteering isn't anywhere near as developed a concept here as it is in Europe/ America.

You could try the centre mentioned in this (http://www.expat.ru/forum/charitable-initiatives-russia/34323-great-place-volunteer-center-children-preodolenie-l.html) thread for a start.

Downside Up (http://www.downsideup.org/sitemap.htm) might also be happy to take volunteers.

Is there any particular type of organization you'd like to volunteer with? If you can be more specific, I might be able to find more information.

hi J,

Most of volunteer work groups I know of in Russia, you have to pay them to volunteer...

And i know some can get expensive....

There is a great volunteer group that costs around $300 for two weeks where you help build a hiking trail at Lake biakal...

Good luck

Hi - sorry, that was vague.

I'm hoping to expand on a Volunteer Opportunites list, to help out British students who come to Russia to study Russian generally during their third year of university.

I have heard of:

Maria's Children
Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy
International Women's Club
The Centre for Adaptation and Education for Migrants' Children
and various dog shelters

If anyone has any other places to add to this list, please let me know, and I'll look into it!

Hi Jenniky,
Please look at this sub-forum http://www.expat.ru/forum/charitable-initiatives-russia/ for a list of currently known charities.
If you scan through it, please let me know if there's something there meeting your requirements.
cheers

There is an integrative school №1321 «Shrine» in Moscow, Aviamotornaya Street, 30-А. Phone: +7(495)673-25-20. International and local volunteers are involved in helping children with different disabilities with expressive arts means.

Besides I've found this resource accidentally: MiraMed – Centers for Social Adaptation in Russia (http://www.miramed.org/social.htm)

I'll send you a PM with some more contacts and I can find some additional contacts if you are interested (actually I'm interested as well:).

best wishes,
Irina

Actually there are some private e-mails of my friends involved in such activity here so I can't give them for publishing. Anyway, as soon as I get any extra information about the organizations, I'll send it.
