The Colour Of The Night

You and I moving in the dark
Bodies close but souls apart
Shadowed smiles and secrets unrevealed
I need to know the way you feel

Chorus
I'll give you everything I am
And everything I want to be
I'll put it in your hands
If you could open up to me oh
Can't we ever get beyond this wall

Cause all I want is just once
To see oyu in the light
But you hide behind the colour of the night

I can't go on running from the past
Love has torn away this mask
And now I like clouds like rain I'm drowning
And I blame it all to you
I'm lost God save me

Chorus

Cause all I want is just once
Forever and again
I'm waiting for you
I'm standing in the light
But you hide behind the colour of the night

Please come out from the colour of the night

Punchy it used to be my fav years ago :p
...i don't have permanent fav song ;) i have forever fav bands tho ;)

as for the fav song of this month...i'm surprised but think it would be this one :D

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain

I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
(woo woo, woo woo)

I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
(woo woo, woo woo)

I shouted out,
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me
(who who, who who)

Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
(woo woo, who who)

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
(who who)
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
(who who, who who)

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
(woo woo, who who)

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
(who who, who who)

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
(woo woo)
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
(woo woo, woo woo)

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
(who who)
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
(woo woo, woo woo)

Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
(woo woo)

Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame

Oh, who
woo, woo
Woo, who
Woo, woo
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Oh, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAAAAAAAAah ;)

People let me tell you
I work hard everyday
I get up out of bed
I put on my clothes
Cause Ive got bills to pay
Now, it aint easy
But I dont need no help
I got a strong will to survive
Ive got a deeper love
Deeper love
Deeper love inside
And I call it

CHORUS:
Pride
A deeper love
Pride
A deeper love
Pride
A deeper love
Woah
Its the power that gives you the strength to survive
Pride
A deeper love
Woah

Now Ive got love in my heart
It gives me the strength
To make it through the day
Oh, love pride is have respect for yourself
And thats why Im not looking for
Hand outs, charity
Welfare, dont need
Stealing, dealing
Not my feeling
No back stabbing
Greedy grabbing
Lying cheating
'Cause Ive got a deeper love
A deeper love
A deeper love inside
Ive got a deeper love
A deeper love
Deeper love inside
And I call it

CHORUS

And I want to thank you
For helping me see
Theres a power that lives deep inside of me
Give me the strength to carry on
Please be strong

Morissette Alanis :: Ironic

An old man turned ninety-eight
He won the lottery
And died the next day
It's a black fly
In your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon
Two minutes too late
Isn't it ironic...don't you think

Chorus:
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride
When you're already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought...it figures

Mr. Play it Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase
And kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damned life
To take that flight
And as the plane crashed down
He thought:"Well isn't it nice..."
And isn't it ironic...don't you think

Chorus

Well life has a funny way
Of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay
And everything's going right
And life has a funny way
Of helping you out
When you think everything's gone wrong
And everything blows up
In your face

A traffic jam
When you're already late
A no-smoking sign
On your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons
When all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife

And isn't it ironic... Don't you think?
A little too ironic... And yeah I really do think...
Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out... Helping you out

Don't Explain

Hush now, don't explain
There aint nothin' to gain
Im glad that your back
dont explain

Quiet baby, dont explain
there is nothin to gain.
Skip back the lipstick
don't explain.

You know that I love you
and what love endures
all my thoughts are of you
for I'm so completly yours
Don't want to hear folks chatter
cause I know you cheat
Right n' wrong don't matter
when youre with me, my sweet.

Hush now don't explain
don't you know youre my joy and youre my pain.
My life is yours, love
don't explain

All my thoughts are of you, for I'm so completly yours.
I don't want to hear nobody chatter
cause I know you cheat,
right n' wrong don't matter
when your with me, my sweet.

Hush now, don't explain
youre my joy, youre my pain
My life is yours, love
don't explain.

The irony here is that the examples mentioned are not actually irony. They're tragic, unfortunate, unlucky or inconvenient.

True irony implies a contradiction or unexpected result between reality and perception. A barber who's bald, is a classic example. A man who cuts and works with hair all day, and hence would be perceived to have much of his own, actually has none. Similarly, a song supposedly chock full of examples of irony, contains none (by true definition of the word).

Was this actually intended by Ms. Morissette or did she simply misunderstand the meaning of irony ?

You decide.

Cheers,
Intourist

P.S. Sorry, wasn't trying to be a killjoy or criticize the song, just pointing out an ironic trivia item.

Brushed With Oil, Dusted With Powder

Brushed with oil, dusted with powder
The day began to decline
A broken door, hotel bedroom
The sun cut through the blind (oh but I tell you)

The officer asked "how did it start?"
Oh shit, "you I wish I knew" I said
"On Highbury Fields, the Westside Highway
Or here in the Hollywood hills"

In a black and white, to Orange County
The sky was a beautiful blue
A pack of lights 'n' some keys they found there
They wondered how much I knew (oh but I tell you)

The officer asked "how did it start?"
Oh shit, "you I wish I knew" I said
"On Highbury Fields, the Westside Highway
Or here in the Hollywood hills"

And yes, it's over
And yes, oh the powerful have found me
It was beautiful to see
It was how I'm meant to be
It was love, no matter what they say
It's wonderful to be here

Abraham, my father, had a girl he called his angel
I made my excuses and I like the way it feels

The officer asked "how did it start?"
Oh shit, "you I wish I knew" I said
"On Highbury Fields, the Westside Highway
Or here in the Hollywood hills"

And yes, it's over
And yes, oh the powerful have found me
It was beautiful to see
It was how I'm meant to be
It was love, no matter what they say
It's wonderful to be here

Seasons

Summer nights and long warm days
Are stolen as the old moon falls
And the mirror shows another face
Another place to hide it all
Another place to hide it all

And Im lost, behind
The words Ill never find
And Im left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Sleeping with a full moon blanket
Sand and feathers for my head
But the dreams have never been the answer
These dreams have never made my bed
Dreams have never made my bed

And Im lost, behind
The words Ill never find
And Im left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Now I wanna fly above the storm
But you cant grow feathers in the rain
And the naked floor is cold as hell
This naked floor reminds me
Oh the naked floor reminds me

That Im lost, behind
Words Ill never find
And Im left behind
As the seasons roll on by

If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
And take me worlds away?
Should I be beside myself
Will you even stay?

And Im lost, behind
Words Ill never find
And Im left behind
As the seasons roll on by

Irony depends on your point of view.
Some would say that the fact that a Barber is bald is ironic because it would seem that this man would not have any interest in hair.
Others would say that it is not ironic but natural that a man who has no hair of his own would be all the more interested in it. (kinda like men an breasts)
Still others, rather unromantic scientist types, would say the two are totally unrelated.

Mad about the boy,
I know its stupid to be mad about the boy,
Im so ashamed of it, but must admit
The sleepless nights Ive had about the boy.
On the silver screen,
He melts my foolish heart in evry single scene,
Although Im quite aware that here and there,
Are traces of a cad about the boy.

Lord knows Im not a fool girl,
I really shouldnt care.
Lord knows Im not a schoolgirl,
In the flurry of her first affair.
Will it ever cloy?
This odd diversity of misery and joy.
Im feeling quite insane and young again
And all because Im mad about the boy.

One i will always remember from my youth (i wasn't just into Hardcore and Techno) ;) shows what a big softie i am :)

I've been alone with you
Inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips
A thousand times
I sometimes see you
Passing outside my door
Hello!
Is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted
And my arms are open wide
Because you know just what to say
And you know just what to do
And I want to tell you so much
I love you

I long to see the sunlight in your hair
And tell you time and time again
How much I care
Sometimes I feel my heart will overflow
Hello!
I've just got to let you know
Because I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely?
Or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let start by saying I love you

Hello!
Is it me you're looking for?
Because I wonder where you are
And I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely?
Or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven't got a clue
But let start by saying I love you

Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',
I was layin' in bed
Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough.
And I was standin' on the side of the road
Rain fallin' on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

cont...

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm goin' back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

I'm looking in your eyes
You might be mine tonight
Yeah, I'm feelin' like a fool
'cause you still act so cool
Spend the night with me

I can lose my heart tonight
If you're lonely, feel alright
This is just the night for me and you

I can lose my heart tonight
Are you lonely deep inside ?
There is something in the air tonight

I can feel it everywhere
There's magic in the air
You might be mine tonight
Yeah, I feel so hypnotised
I feel like paradise
I see heaven in your eyes

Take me in your arms
Hold me close tonight
Take my heart away
Take me to the night

Another one I liked a lot. THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL

I don't wanna talk
About the things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain.

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all...

Well, I've been doodling on this notepad
And I been taking telephone calls
I can tell this job's at the end of the line
And I'm ready for the fall
But I been watchin' the boss carefully
And he always seems to be havin' a ball
And then I scratch my head and wonder
Why I'm down here and he's up the hall

Now, all of my paychecks aren't worth
The paper they're printed on
I get 'em Friday
But Monday they're all gone
There must be some way to change my situation
It's time that I took up a brand new vocation

I wanna take a two-week vacation
Twenty-six times a year, add 'em up
When I fly to exotic places
My jet will be a Lear
I'll need several secretaries
Just to jot down notes
I'll wear Gucci loafers
And expensive shirts
And blue, executive, exotic coats

Chorus:
'Cause I, I said I wanna be a boss
(I wanna be, I wanna be)
I, I said I wanna be a boss
And I'll have people workin' under me
And this lousy job I'll toss
I, I said I wanna be a boss

Well, I'll drive in fancy cars
Well, no, maybe I'll just cruise
With a limoand a chauffeur,
TV, telephone, and booze
Tinted windows so the common folk
Can't see me here inside
Maybe every now and then for fun
I'll give some old coot a ride

Then maybe I'll slip him
A thousand dollar bill
Then he'll smile and shake my hand
And I'll put him in my will
I'm gonna count up all my widgets
And digits, and all my stuff
I'll make millions in a day
But it'll never be enough
Nopenot enough!

Chorus:
'Cause I, I said I wanna be a boss
And I just wanna take a four-hour lunch
And eat a steak with A1 Sauce
I, I said I wanna be a boss
And I'll buy up every stock there is
From ITT to Doctor Ross
I, I said I wanna be a boss
(I wanna be, I wanna be)

Now if I find a product I like
I'll buy up the whole company
Shave my face, and grin and smile
And then I'll sell it on TV
And everyone will know me
I'll be more famous than Howard Hughes
I'll grow a long beard and watch
Ice Station Zebra in the nude

And grow my nails like Fu-Manchu
Keep a row of specimen jars
Get other people to work for mewell
Maybe I'll buy the planet Mars, and
Build an amusement park up there
Better than old Walt's place
You'll have to be a millionaire to go
We'll smoke cigars and lounge in lace
Talk the talk of businessmen
And bosses that we are
So here's to methe drinks are free
'Cause I just bought this bar

Yeahyeah, I wanna be a boss
I wanna be a boss, boss, boss!
Some kinda intergalactic boss!

Too many beautiful songs to post here. But still - here is one of my favorites:

Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words

Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you

That's it :)

btw - Can anyone give me a hint? I am trying to find a song, but can't remember the singer's name. The song is "I love rock'n'roll". And the singer is NOT Britney Spears. Thanx :)

And if a double decker bus
Crashes into us,
To die by your side is
Is such a heavenly way to die

And if a ten ton truck
Kills the both of us,
to die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege, is mine

(No one says it quite like Morrissey (ie 'girlfriend in a coma', but when you hear the songs, they are beautiful)

THANX! THANX! THANX! Yes, it is Joan Jet. I've heard this song on my fav. radio (now unfortunately closed), and just loved it. Britney is popular enough here in Russia, but HER version of "I love rock'n'roll" is IMHO terrible (no offense :) )

Britney does 'I love Rock and Roll'? That sounds just awful!! Have you heard the TRAVIS version of 'oops I did it again'? Ha, that god for Travis!

To the tune of "Row Row Row Your Boat"

Roll Roll Roll a joint,

twist it at the end,

light it up, and take a puff

and pass it to a friend.

Roll roll roll a joint,

pass it down the line.

Take a toke, Hold the smoke.

Blow your f**k-in mind.

It won't do
to dream of caramel,
to think of cinnamon
and long for you.

It won't do
to stir a deep desire,
to fan a hidden fire
that can never burn true.

I know your name,
I know your skin,
I know the way
these things begin;

But I don't know
how I would live with myself,
what I'd forgive of myself
if you don't go.

So goodbye,
sweet appetite,
no single bite
could satisfy...

I know your name,
I know your skin,
I know the way
these things begin;

But I don't know
what I would give of myself,
how I would live with myself
if you don't go.

It won't do
to dream of caramel,
to think of cinnamon
and long
for you

Well, I don't care if it rains or freezes,
Long as I got my plastic Jesus,
Sittin' on the dashboard of my car.

Comes in colors, pink and pleasant,
Glows in the dark cause it's irridescent
Take it with you when you travel far.

Get yourself a sweet Madonna,
Dressed in rhinestones, sittin' on
A pedestal of abalone shell

Goin' ninety, I ain't scary,
'Cause I've got the Virgin Mary,
Assurin' me that I won't go to Hell.

Where do we go from here?
This isn't where we intended to be.
We had it all
You believed in me
I believed in you
Certainties disappear
What do we do for our dream to survive
How do we keep all our passions alive
As we used to do?

Deep in my heart I'm concealing
Things that I'm longing to say
Scared to confess what I'm feeling
Frightened you'll slip away
You must love me
You must love me

Why are you at my side?
How can I be any use to now?
Give me a chance and I'll let you see how
Nothing has changed.

Deep in my heart I'm concealing
Things that I'm longing to say
Scared to confess what I'm feeling
Frightened you'll slip away
You must love me

This is Madonna's "You Must Love Me" from "Evita" (It's a pity I can't post all the lyrics from this musical here
:) )
