Shamsi is a little cat about 6 months old. She was run over by a car and her two legs were broken. She was rescued by volunteers of the forum "Pes i Kot" and had surgery in the clinic Obereg which lasted for about 5 hours. Her hemoglobin is still too low so she is staying more days in the clinic, after which she should either have blood transfusion if no improvement, or move to a foster home where she will be taken care of until recovery and adoption.

It is a well known fact that in this country treatment of homeless animals is not sponsored by the state or companies, so an injured animal becomes a problem of the person who found it. As the prices are very high, people have to join efforts to cover the costs. As usually the same people find animals and join efforts on a regular basis, every new animal become still a bigger challenge to sponsor.

We call upon all people who are sorry for the homeless animals in Moscow to help cover the debt for Shamsis surgery and treatment in the Clinic Obereg, which at this moment is about 28000 rubles.

Any donation, however big or small, will make a big difference.
The money can be delivered directly to the clinic, transferred to a bank account or given to the person in charge of Shansi.

do you really expect to find an idiot here that is going to believe this sh*t? even putting my own 2 legs in plaster is going to cost less than 28000 rubles...

Well, you can have your legs put in plaster for free if you go to a free clinic.

Veterinarians in Moscow charge the full monty for treatment. 28k is a lot of money, but let's not forget that all the work on the cat has been done by private clinics. And, speaking from experience, there are actually people who will just drain their own wallets to safe an unknown animal. So, dismissing this as a hoax or scam is not correct.

@Malta:
It seems you joined the forum just for the purpose of getting the costs spent on the cost covered. This will inevitably lead to people not believing the story at face value. This just how a forum works.

Going forward, as the post is one day old almost, I suggest that with any more pleads for help, you provide transparency:
- how much of the 28000 has been paid already?
- how much is still needed?
- if a forum member donated, ask him/her if you can share on this forum that he/she made a contribution.

Also, please understand that if people go to a clinic directly and pay there, the general fear is that the money will be happily accepted, but may not up giving the cat any benefits.

Ezhik, thank you for the explanations.
In message 1 http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175554
you can see the daily update. Further in the thread you can see who gave what and what is going on with fundraising and cat’s condition.
In the financial report you can see the totals, indicating who gave how much and from which resource the person came (mostly from pesikot, Life Journal, Vkontakte)
http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175604
It is hard to believe that veterinarian services cost just as much for stray animals as for somebody’s pets, until you find an animal whom you need to take to the clinic. You will have a big surprise. The next surprise will be that people will start to give you money to help pay for the animal you found, if you open a topic at Pesikot, without telling you that this is sh*t and that you can have plaster all over your body for free in a Russian clinic.

Surgery is expensive, neutering is expensive, injections are expensive, vaccination is expensive, and the state does not sponsor any costs, neither for the poor, nor for the rescue volunteers, when it comes to veterinarial services.

Staying in a cubicle for a street cat is more expensive than for a home cat, because of quarantine requirements.
Here you can see the price list of the clinic where the cat is staying
http://www.vethelp.ru/altufjevo/prices/
Here you can see prices of 2 other clinics for comparison
http://www.vettigr.ru/Price_vet_uslug-[vettigr.ru].doc
http://sterilizaciya-sobak.belanta.ru/

State clinics are not cheaper but often less caring for the outcome of their interference with the animal's health.

The options how to render the financial aid are indicated here:
http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175554
It is also possible in principle to leave the money directly in the clinic. To agree about this, please call Julia, the person in charge of the cat. +79162008503 to let her know that you plan to do it, so that she can include it into the report.
It IS a requirement according to the rules of PesiKot to indicate the origin of the money (the resource from which the sponsor comes and his/her nick name) and the method of transfer (Yandex, Sberbank, cash etc.) unless the sponsor prefers to remain anonimous. In this case he should let the person in charge of the cat know that he/ she is making the transfer, but would not like his/her nick name to be included in the report. Then the amount will be included as anonimous.

The current amount to be paid is 32000 rubles.
Invoices for May 2 and 3 have not been issued yet.
The other invoices are here: http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175604
The amount raised up to now is shown here in Приход
http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175604

It is hard to believe that helping a stray cat is so expensive in Russia, but yes, animal charity is an expensive hobby here (even when you take a “healthy” abandoned cat from the street to find a home for it, the payment for its accommodation, neutering, vaccination and deworming in the first month is about 6500 rubles, each next month until adoption is 4500, a newspaper ad is 2500 rubles, all paid by individuals. The other option is to leave the cat die in the street. Also an option. What is not an option is giving the animal to a state-run shelter, you can read a lot on the internet on this subject , one example is here http://rt.com/news/animal-rights-activists-rally/.

Well, Ezhik, girl did her homework and she is obviously very passionate about the cause.
If you look at the cost of it, actual cost, it really shouldnt be that expensive though...
I love cats btw

To sum it up, daily updates on the cat condition are published here
http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175554
The Financial report can be found here in message 1 http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175604
The invoices and other supporting documents are in later messages in the same thread, updated on the ad hoc basis.
The contact information and price lists of the clinic are here
http://www.vethelp.ru
The cat is registered as Chernonosaya, if anyone would like to call and make inquiries.
The contact telephone number of the person who is in charge of the cat at the Pes i Kot forum is +79162008503 (Julia)
If anyone wants to help the cat, please let us know so that we can include you into the financial report, by writing here or directly at http://pesikot.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=175554

I shake my head at the stupidity of some people. 32000 has already been paid for something that cost 28 000rub. now we see that the costs are rising. Are you sure that this is not a cow? How much are you expecting to milk from this cat?

6500 for deworming? I was offered to purchase a dewormed cat from the animal shelter for 500 rubles. 4500rubles for rent? Students pay 2000 for a year in the 'obshages.' 2500 rubles for adverts? Ezik how huch are you collecting for this advert? I shake my head.

In short, my conscience is clear. I tried to warn people of this scam. Im not going to post here any more, peopple really only learn from their mistakes

I think it is inappropriate to call it a scam if effectively complete transparency is offered. So please let's not insult the original poster.

Of course, if you bring your own pet to the local vet, you may end up with lower prices, but in this case there is a professional organisation with an approach that handles the whole "workflow" of rescueing, healing and replacing a cat. And the choice for a private vet is explained as well: outcome of the treatment, i.e. the final result.

So, whether the approach is "too expensive", is something each one can make his/her mind up about. But not agreeing with the approach is no reason to call it a scam.

Malta, thanks for your clarifications. I hope people will decide to support your initiative.

I saw a dead cat yesterday. He looked as if he had a full life. He bled from his mouth and pissed his tail. He looked as if he tried to scream but the sound didn't make it out. His eyes were open but the lights were out. He was pulled to the side of the road for the crew to sweep up. I took a good look then moved on...

I fully sympathise with people who spend a lot of money on vet bills for their family pets - they are loved like members of the family.

But Russia has problems more urgently in need of statutory or charitable support.

thank you all the readers of the topic for your interest in Shamsi.
In the meantime with a lot of joint efforts of users of various communities the required amount was collected. Shamsi has moved from the clinic to the temporary paid foster home for rehabilitation where she will stay until recovery. While she needs medical care, the price of such accommodation per day is 200 rubles. It will go down to 150 rubles per day when medical care is not needed.

Happy to help financially. As I am not allowed to send PMs as yet, please reply via PM. Can't offer foster home until early July - but after 4th July, I ought to be able to help.

Thank you very much. I will write you a PM. It would be great if you could be a foster home. Hopefully by that time she will need no medical care and the structures will have ben removed.

The strutures have been taken off by the doctor and Shamsi will start learning to walk. After a rehabilitation period in the cage where she will be kept for another week or so to be sure that she takes up more load on her legs gradually, she will be allowed to stay in a room with the other cats waiting for adoption.
In ther meantime we are starting to look for a loving family for this beautiful and corageous cat.
