I had found some information about New Zealanders flying in WW11 in this post:
http://www.expat.ru/forum/showthread.php?p=722506#post722506
and : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1181390/Stalins-British-heroes-The-discovery-forgotten-medal-reveals-extraordinary-courage-RAF-aces-fought-Soviet-Union.html
and I was interested in it and searched around and eventually found a little more about the flyers and what happened, a "closed" museum in Murmansk that has some of the British Hurricane fighters from this time (1941) and USSR brought a lot of wool from New Zeland during the war and even sent boats down to New Zealand
Here is the link (in Russian only)

One of the Hurricane fighters from this time was recovered from Russia and restored in New Zeland and now features in airshows here
