I want to send some of my books and stuff to California in two heavy suitcases. I contacted a moving company about shipping them, but it's not enough for them. They suggested that I pay the cost of sending them as excess baggage.

Very good, but I'm not going to California, so I don't think that the airlines would accept them as excess baggage, right?

Any ideas on how best and cheapest to get my stuff to California?

Find a freight consolidator... the cheapest.
or
Check the usual suspects for rates...

Fedex
UPS
DHL
TNT

etc.

Hey there. If you find any asnwers to your question, please let me know. I have the same problem. I need to ship several large suitcases and a few boxes of personal belongings back to Seattle or to California and I haven't been able to find anything yet.

Thanks

yo

i've heard of "unaccompanied baggage" -- so if *you* aren't going to CA, maybe you can still send your suitcases there? i'm sure the cost is nothing to laugh at, but it would still be better than shipping. i think. i have not done this personally so i can't offer any truly helpful advice, except to call an airline and see if they play this game.
