I think it's quite impossible to make friends on any internet forum.

I use to spend a lot of time playing cards on the net and i met an American, we chatted, had a laugh, spoke to each other on the phone and we (my wife as well) went over to Fort Lauderdale after he and his wife invited us, we had the best holiday we've ever had, he even took us on a cruise from Miami to Key West on a 50ft motor yacht just 4 of us, normal cost of this is around $5000.
He would meet us at the hotel every morning and drive us wherever we wanted, i even told him not to bother, but he wouldn't hear of it.
I've never met a more decent honest man, what's sad about that? ;)

I've met many good friends after first talking to them on the internet.

You MEET people on the internet, you make friends with them over a drink or two in a bar.

It's a concept-thing.

I think you could understand who your friend when you meet people and communicate with them. When you know people only by internet - it's not same than real life.

Good question, it came up a year or so ago as well but I would like to give my little bit :)

When this site was bought by a friend of mine we set up a boozer night, 1st time was Polly, Braders, K-girl and Rant and Rave came, we had a blast and from there grew loads of events and friendships.

I was in 'Lost in Moscow' a great band who are still active, we played at the Hard Rock here in Moscow several times as well as other venues

I have a great bunch of close friends, around 12, who I consider to be among the best people to be around.

Why, because of this site, that may be sad, but to me it has been an integral part of my life for the past 6 years..

So there ya go

But always one should be aware of a persons identity before including him\her in their friends list.

you are right. I have seen people in real life and sometimes our interests don't cross at all.
But I suppose you could understand me. it's too easy.
I read two or three days ago from one book that virtual world (web, internet etc) it's like possibility for the some persons realize themself. it's easy to come, to see, to chat to any web online sourse but real life is more ... real:)

Yes, Maria - I second what Blonde has to say. I am sure that you are not stupid or naive, but be careful and always meet in public place.

I very strongly suggest that you arrange to meet in one of the Expat pubs, such as the Albion, and then you can make up your own mind about the person(s) you are meeting.

I would also suggest that you speak to some of the girls / ladies on here who may also give you some more personal and relevant tips....................!

The following is tale of woe and is shared as a warning to those who may be embarking on a 'virtual' relationship whether they are looking for one or not.........!

Having previously worked and lived in The Russian Federation, I visited EXPAT in order to conduct up to date research about Moscow etc before I return to secure work with a large International company. I did not visit the site to start talking to a Russian female; that was the last thing on my mind.

However, I do not recall under what circumstances, but I began chatting with a Russian lady (who will remain namless for her sake) - she may have PM'd me first. Many PMs later, she sent me some photos and she is quite clearly a very attractive and fun loving looking lady and I am sure that we could have had lots of decent and honest fun together.

Very soon we were sending PMs many times a day to one another and in a very odd way, despite having never met her, I was beginning to become fond of a lady whom I trusted and felt that I was getting to know well in this virtual world. This was clearly not the case for the lady in Moscow because out of the blue came a suggestion that I had a daughter (which I have not or certainly do not know about!) and then more recently was challenged about my age and then, despite having never met me, quoted me my age! I find this mistrust very unsettling and I suppose syptomatic of talking in this medium.

This distrust and doubt is no basis for a having a relationship at any level, whether virtual or real, and as such I have lost her. She is not a gold digger and I am not a predator as we have read about in other peoples' experiences in other Threads. As she appears to be a truly fantastic lady, I wish her no malice but all the very best in happiness and success for the future.

Clearly surviving on the internet is a non-starter for me and I suggest that others really the consider the lack of real inter-action bewteen two people when furiouly banging away at the keyboard..............................

Good Luck to those who attempt, or continue, with a relationship over the wire!

Very wierd, and very ermmm ahh wierd
