Cheap flight to Milan, but can an American get a Russian visa in a day there? Also, anybody have definitive knowledge on whether a 30 day, one entry, business visa can be extended without leaving the country?

Yes for the first question and No for the second. I went to Milan in 2002 and got my visa in one day, however they have odd hours so make sure you check the days and hours they are open. I think they are closed on Mondays and only open from 10-2 in the afternoon.

Thanks for the info. Do they accept cash?

They do visas in one day only till 12 o'clock and you can pay only by cash.( as it was till october 2004).
The consulate is at the metro station "Lotto" and then you can walk or take a taxi for 7-8 euros.

NO. You cannot get a visa there as an American anymore. I was going to go there in Feb, and the agency who was going to handle my visa called two days before I was to leave and said the embassy gives visas to Italians only now.

So what did you do? I haven't bought tickets yet, but they're on reserve. And my company started the process assuming I was going to Milan. Thanks for the info, though.
