View Full Version : Electronics - Worth Moving?

25-05-2005, 02:16
I am moving to Moscow shortly from the US and contemplating whether to take my 110V electronics with and get converters or sell in US and get new 220V stuff. Any thoughts or experiences with this? Are converters just a pain? What is the likely customs $ hit vs. Moscow markup?

Any guidance is much appreciated.

If you can afford it, I'd recommend you buy local electronics in Moscow that are built to the specs for 230 v. power here. Some U.S. equipment like a DVD player won't play locally manufactured DVDs. As well, there is the expense of shipping your electronic equipment if there is much of it. Plug & Play is better than Plug & Swear.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been stuck doing some real work for a change and this has greatly interfered with my fun on the expat site! :-)
