OK one more post I'm at home all day today!

Its so damn hot here in Moscow. A friend of mine has window tints on his flat windows in the UK. Its a bit like the Russian car windows that are black and keep eyes out. (or so they think!) yesterday I was passing a car walking with my kid when I saw a man receiving a *** job from his girlfriend, he looked horrified when I peered into his window, trousers were pulled up very quickly and we rushed on while I covered my child's eyes from such a sight at 10.00 in the morning on a Moscow street.

I digress....is it possible to buy those stick window tints in Moscow? I think if you have air-con and its not enough this extra sun protection could help further to cool down a flat. Its like sunglasses for windows and you just stick it on. Just an idea. :545:

see here for explanation (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Solar-Screen-Sun-Filter-Window-Film-UV-122cm-x-200cm_W0QQitemZ150464450700QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=&rvr_id=&cguid=cb8f5b311290a0aad354d1d4ffdd7c78)

I use a little electric fan. It cost 150 rubles. I just plug it in and place it about 30- 60 cm from wherever I happen to be. Even have it on at night on a little table at the end of the bed. It makes a big difference if you are sitting in one place, it's not much use if you are moving around the flat.

A friend of mine lives in a very sunny flat. They tried this film but as far as I know were not very happy with the result. Moreover it is very difficult to take it off the gl**** it leaves marks. They ended up installing air-con.

Maybe there are different brands of this film and some work better then others.

And it wasn't black but silver, like mirror.

Viola do you know what these are called in Russian??? I was told you can by it in rolls at the "markets" or at OBI. Air-con may not be enough in a flat that faces the direct sun from 12.00 noon. :11629:

Have you thought of err, pulling the curtains, or dropping the blinds? :)

I find air-conditioning works magnificently, personally. Well worth the expense :)

Black windows should make your flat hotter as they absorb heat. White and silver reflect light and heat. A cheap fan will do the trick most nights, As someone noted. AC is not cheap and has its pros and cons.

They are not black windows but are silver reflecting UV stick on window filters.

I can confirm that AC is the way to go but it's expensive to buy and install and one AC is a minimum 4 times the price of a fan to run.
If you own the apartment i would agree but if you're renting it's not such a good idea for obvious reasons.
Also, guess what? By the time you've installed it the heat wave will be over. You wont even be thinking about using it again for another year and next year will be the coldest summer on record.
It's called sod's law! ;)

Sods law our oldest friend. You are right, as soon as AC is put in, it will rain for 4 weeks then winter will arrive. :fudd:

:7534:I thought about the cost of electricity but every Russian I know says its cheap in Russia. Fans just blow the hot air around.

In desperate measures I got a bowl of ice and put it in front of a fan at the end of the bed, it did help cool me off as long as I didn't move or run out of ice!
